Anyone Taking Both Sinemet and CR ?

When first diagnosed by my primary care physician he prescribed Sinemet CR 25/100 to be taken at 6 hour intervals 4 times daily , today I met with a Neurologist/Parkinson’s movement disorder specialist, she changed my regiment to the quick release Sinemet 25/100 three times daily at 5 hour intervals beginning at 7am and a 25/100 extended release tab atm bedtime.

Thoughts on this regiment…Anyone doing something similar ?

It is what works best for you that counts.

I am also a believer in not fixing that which is not broken.

Always solid advice…the new cocktail stars tomorrow morning, I’ll report my experience in a few days. Thanks PB

Honestly, I didn’t see a drastic change in on/off periods…you just have to tweak your dosage intervals until of f periods are minimized, easier said than done.

Hi, I used to take both. I took regular Sinemet 25-100 every 4 hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sinemet CR at 11:00 p.m. The CR was to help me manage when I got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. It worked well. I now take Rytary instead of Sinemet to ostensibly help with my dyskinesias and I also take Rytalry in the middle of the night since it is extended release. The only Sinemet I take now is the fast release for acute off periods. Rytary is okay but it takes 2 hours for it to kick in I'm not kidding so I sometimes wish I was still taking Sinemet.

I took 1 25/100 IR together with one 26/100 CR which helped extend my ON time. When OFF appeared again, I am giving Rytary a try.

Still adjusting dose. Too much in the morning made me impulsive. Too little in the afternoon gives me an awful mid afternoon slump ( halfway between doses)..

I found taking the CR/IR combo for my evening dose works better than Rytary for me, as too much dopamine was interfering with my sleep and I was getting too much dopamine causing pretty severe wearing off dyskinesia right before bed brushing teeth ( dopamine not being broken down adequately, I think. I’m not that good at the pharmacokinetics part).

I was only prescribed 145s, but asked for 95s as well to be able to more easily adjust the dose…

Thanks to everyone for the feedback…this is clearly a case of what the bear said, go with what ya know works best for you.

There’s clearly no set standard for a PD meds regiment, it’s a listen to your body kinda deal and adjust as necessary.

Thanks again everyone, hope you’re all having a good day.
