Descriptions

Probucol is used to lower levels of cholesterol (a fat-like substance) in the blood. This may help prevent medical problems caused by cholesterol clogging the blood vessels.

Probucol was available only with your doctor's prescription.

Probucol was voluntarily removed from the market in the United States during 1995. The withdrawal from the market was due to safety concerns .

Probucol was withdrawn from the US market in 1995 because of its adverse cardiac effects. The use of probucol was limited because of its adverse cardiac side effects.

The use of probucol was limited because of its adverse cardiac side effects. Its most serious side effect in this regard is lengthening of the QT interval Dujovne et al (1984), Browne et al (1984), Klein (1981).

Probucol reduces the incidence of restenosis following angioplasty Rodes et al (1998), Lau et al (2003). An analog of probucol, AGI-1067, is being investigated as a new drug therapy since it displays antioxidant properties without affecting the QT interval Tardif et al (2002).

Guess this was back when Drug companies were ethical and actually pulled drugs before too many people were harmed. Now it is all about the $$ and limiting liability, and likely lining politicans pockets. Clearly I have developed trust issues with Big Pharma! I know medicine is essential for many diseases and I am grateful for those who love research and truly want to help people, just looking for more honesty and better prices. Our insurance will not cover HWP Rytary, but they had patent dispute so others can manufacture in about a year. Hopefully better prices.

that’s not a bad approach so long as there is adequate evidence for efficacy and safety
