Pd affects the subconscious nervous system and walking is controlled by that area of the brain. We Pd patients have to learn to consciously control our walking. That means we have to consciously place all our weight on one leg and then consciously move the other leg forward and consciously land on the heel of that leg, then consciously move the back leg forward and land on the heel etc, etc. You will never be able to safely walk without concentrating on what you are doing. Sorry about that, but you soon get used to it. I have been doing it for over twenty years and yes, I have fallen on two occasions because my attention was taken off the walking by thinking of other matters. My book tells you everything about dealing with all the symptoms of Pd!
I have no idea! How many people did I help today? That is the whole meaning of my life to help others overcome their Pd symptoms. I do it through answering many emails every day and showing others how to consciously concentrate on what their arms and legs are doing!@
PERMANENTLY! FREE BALANCE EXERCISES ON YOU TUBE MAY HELP FIRST. GOOD LUCK.
I have the U step walker and fortunately I was able to acquire it for free through the Parkinson’s association in my town who has a medical supply store in the area that they work with, providing free equipment for those who need it. If you have a Parkinson’s association in your area you should check with them. I feel very secure using mine but I tend to have gait freezing and falling forward. I also agree that balance exercises will help you a lot.
Hi, in the past I've fallen many times a day. Í feel like my ustep saved me from many more! Í use it all time now. I just fall now when I don't use it. Good luck!
Your profile doesn't say where you live, and somewhat curiously this solution appears to be just in France, but it is in my box of "one day if I need it"
And finally, this was something I intended to look into for my Dad who suffered from festination, but sadly he died of Covid first. Take a look from about 3 minutes 20 seconds
