I'v got Parkinson's disease and he has mine.

I have come to like Groucho Marx's joke, but Parkinson's disease [Pd] is no joke, but you have to laugh, or you could go mad. I'm going to be the first Pd to eat my way out of this. As good as the Meds for Pd are, I don't believe they are the way. they just help at first, then comes the fun, from top to bottom, mental problems, drooling, stop! you already know the rest of this list, my list goes back to May 2000 when I got my slice of Pd aged 45. I have tried nearly every Pd drug. I don't know what would have happened without taking the drugs but I'm not a happy bunny, so I'v decided I will eat my way out, where ever it takes me, the Universe is big, my mine is even larger, no doors, no stairs, no falls, no pain. just me and life. bye Danny

Good to read this. Are you taking any PD meds? What kind of diet are you following?

Hi, thanks for the query, I take 5 Stalevo, 200mg. one every 4 hours, per day, I don't sleep to long, a good night is 3 hours.hence the 5 Stalevo, And 3 Amantadine HCI 100mg, 1 Selegiline 10mg each morning,1Rotigotine patch 2mg 24 hours. And 1 Amitriptyline 75mg one per night. also take 2 Levetiracetam 500mg per day. 1 Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate 200mg. I take pain killers for Sciatica, Paracetamol 500mg. You can see I take the odd tablet??? Diet just starting, I know soon I will need some new meds, so fingers crossed, I hope to check out all food options, I read Adelle Davis's book Let's Get Well in 1998, first sign of PD, Magnesium and Vitamin B is the magic cure, NOT. tried and no change, but I will keep searching, I've also tried the holistic route,, sorry no change. My blood group is B+, so I will always look on the bright side of life, do do. [ Monty Pythons].

Have you heard about Velvet Beans ? Mucuna Pruriens ?

In a double blind Clinical and Pharmacological Study. enough of these studies and their never ending tripe. the beans worked faster. they lasted longer. they had less reaction, in fact they beat the L-dopa/Carbidopa meds in every way..but have you heard about them, in my Pd years I haven't once heard Velvet Beans. the name Mucuna Pruriens, I'm not saying they are the gold at the end of the rainbow. { well I am Irish ] but a plate of beans or countless drugs, I smell a rat. this study took place in London 19 September 2003. nearly 9 years they still have no results to show what was best the beans or the drugs, what do you think? Please put this question to who ever you see about Pd, Specialists??????????????????

I tried using juiced broad bean pods as a source of dopamine when I was first diagnosed 17 years ago! It was hard work and not particularly successful .....

Hi, I believe that the medication we need can't be to long away, My first meds were in May 2000. I belong to a PD group in Enfield, Middlesex and I have seen all stages of PD, My older brother Barney died of PD and dementia.aged 67, but he boxed from he was a child, I think the main problem with the food producing Dopamine is the cross over to the brain, I just hope a number of Doctors and Nutritionists get together and sort it out, but broad beans didn't work, maybe the next fruit or veg you try will be the ONE.

I first noticed the onset at 38 in 1998, and have been taking requip with selegeline until last week when my consultant added sinemet to my cocktail. What an impact!!!

Danny2401 profile image
Danny2401 in reply tophilwebstersongwriter

Hi Phil, I started on Requip 24 mg a day. I was also on Selegiline 10mg a day. and one sinemet 5mg or 10mg at night I started with lower doses but the fun started when I couldn't get enough, my Neuroligist kept giving me more every 6 months. in the end I was on Requip 24mg a day. and did I change, Impulsive behaviour or compulsive behaviour, I call it Madness. I turned into Mr Hide, honestly I very rarely gamble, but I was just say GAMBLING a lot. Sex mad. compulsive buying of TV, paranoid, jealous, compulsive eating, [ still eating a lot but I blame it on the PD meds, liar]. so beware of the demon PD meds,

What was the impact you noted the most?

Danny2401 profile image
Danny2401 in reply tocompucure

Hi, the impact was my Neuroligist, should have asked to see my family as I attended the Hospital by my self, and I wasn't aware of anything, I was having a rewarding Brain moment, But I have taken part in tests for my impulsive behaviour and it turned out it was the PD meds, we were like junkiees looking for their next fix. apart of our brain was being very nice to its self hence the regardless acts, I could not stop, Promepixle was another of my PD meds beware, be very aware.

HELLO DANNY, I think PD starts much earlier than most of us think! But we don't relate to early symptons howw could we? i've tried accupuncture tapes, bio energy , at last i feel that nutrision is the answer, but it depends on the damage parkies has managed to do. i've lust had a hair analasys with BIONETICS, they said i have a POST VIRUS HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THIS? also vitamins BI/B5 & ZINCthey also some herbs / there is nodrugs to counteract this, so i've been on this diet for 6 weeks i'm just taking another test to see if it has succeeded ill keep you posted

be good to hear from anyone, who is interested Many thanks scarab123

Hi Scarab 1-2-3, Did you mean Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, I googled Post Virus and I ended up on a PC antivirus site, you have me interested, I read about viruses and I could be wrong but I did not see anywhere a virus could be detected from hair. please let me know how you got on, depending how old we are does it matter if we take vitamin B, Magnesium, or any other vitamin as long as you don't overdo it.

I am very interested in any alternative treatment that works! I reckon I have tried just about everything to little or no avail. I think the most beneficial therapy I have found is going to the gym particularly using the bike and treadmill - unfortunately I have not been able to get to the gym since recent DBS op....Out of the mist! Hi Scarab,

I agree with you. I think the desease starts in childhood. I could never follow dance steps, I couldn't clap or figure out where words were accented. I was always the child that was a little out there. I feel much more like a normal person since I have been taking the medication. I feel that I must have started with a lower dopamine level

I agree any time spent what ever the sport or hobby is time well spent, and what's better than a good long walk, I play lawn green bowls, we call our club the shakers, you gotta laugh, indoors until next year. our local Pd group are magic, we meet twice or three times a week, they are lovely people, we have tea or coffee meetings, but also go the West End shows. we have a lot in common.and in the summer we have trips to famous old houses and gardens.

we have good times. be happy

my family are from the boxing game, my oldest brother Barney, was heavyweight champion of Ireland for 12 years he died age 67, from Parkinson's disease although he had some dementia, most likely from boxing. he told me "to keep throwing punches", in other words don't give in with out a fight. So I pass this bit of wisdom on to my Parkinson's Family, because we are all in the same boat. keep fighting and you never know we all might get cured, wouldn't that be nice.

Hi Everybody: Joe Mc in florida, USA.

I was an Acupuncturist and nutritionist when I was Dx in 2004 at age 54. so I've tried every thing I can to keep my meds at a low dose. I take handfuls of vitamins,B12 C, D,E, COQ10, full spectrum enzymes, ETC. I also taught Taichi. I believe that doing all these things produces a positive cascade for me. I am less depressed when I bike or exercise, more alert when I take my vitamins and feel more positive in general, becasue I am taking responsibility for my own treatment. My Neuro is very understanding, " IF it works it's ok with Me" is his attitude. I write about how I feel, hopeless, lost, angry, why me? etc. But I try to keep that negative self chatter in a box, I say hello to it every day. but never take it out anymore. I've posted a couple of my poems about PD on my Facebook page....jmc9696@gmail.com

I am almost 65 and was diagnosed about 20 years ago. I have been on Stalevo for years. Did you decide not to take any more meds? What diet are you following? I'm doing well on the Stalevo, but hate taking so much medication. How are you feeling now?
