imo....when you get to the point where you are aspirating...Stay calm....dont try to breathe in .....gather yourself for a nice controlled expulsion with whatever air you have ....if it fails stay calm....slowly try to inhale whatever you can get..slowly....go for a second expulsion...controlled...this will work until it doesnt...keep your swallow study current...be mindful of every step of chewing and swallowing..dont talk or take on any task whilst eating..dont mix textures etc etc etc...911 aint fast enough when an unchewed piece of meat drops on your airway....potato...peanut butter with bread etc....or even Un thickened liquids ....keep your swallow study up to date....put off aspiration pneumonia as respiratory failure can account for morbidity in as much as 86% of us....hang tough till you cant..then do something else...

Love this! Swallow study, good speech therapist. You can also use a lung capacity trainer to help push the food out ( play a flute or harmonica, sing, or one of the tubes you breath through to build strength). We were told to rinse with mouthwash before each meal (but I always forget)
