Does your insurance card have an "Ask a Nurse" number on it so you can call and get medical advise?

What Parkinson's meds are you taking? When were you diagnosed?

I have been taking Amantadine on and off. I am constantly getting UTIs with I try to treat with antibiotics but that makes my walking worse. So I never complete a full course mmm

do you understand why that is dangerous? Possibly more dangerous than not taking them at all?

Sorry, that was harsh. But it's scary, because you might have developed an antibiotic resistant bacteria...of course not for certain, but that's how antibiotic resistant bacteria are made.

I think you really ought to see someone and tell them that. And next time you get antibiotic you really have to take it for the entire course, no matter what. Maybe just stay in bed?

Here's something to know also. Please read. What can happen if you stop amantadine abruptly or even reduce your dose rapidly, is that you are at risk of developing serious symptoms that resemble neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

What are the symptoms of rapid withdrawal of amantadine?

Symptoms of rapid withdrawal can include:

agitation

anxiety

delirium

delusions

depression

hallucinations

paranoia

parkinsonian crisis

slurred speech

very low level of consciousness

What are the symptoms of neuroleptic malignant syndrome?

Very high fever (102 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit).

Irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).

Fast heart rate (tachycardia).

Rapid breathing (tachypnea).

Muscle rigidity (stiffness).

Altered mental status.

High blood pressure or low blood pressure.

Excessive sweating.

You're welcome . I don't mean to scare you, just wanted to warn you that PD meds can be tricky to deal with.

Which antibiotic? Does it make your walking worse for failure to relieve UTI symptoms or some other reason?

Also cranberry has been shown to help with UTI. Not the sugar laden cranberry cocktail – use unsweetened cranberry concentrate.
