Wow, Mark! Thanks so much for that study. Ketosis as metabolic treatment for PD. Today is day 33 of my keto cleanse. It’s a 16-week program so I’ve got a ways to go. My weight has stabilized at 153 (started at 168). My energy is coming back and I’m feeling better. I’ve introduced a lot more fat to the diet. Also, I’m now doing daily 2+2, that’s food packets to native protein meals, as per the MD’s instructions. I’m getting excited and hopeful about getting results. Wish me luck - JG

John,

As I am paying much closer attention now to the connection between what I am doing and my symptoms, I think it's time for me to go back on Keto diet again, although I don't think I'm ready for food packets.

Keep us posted.

Marc

He talks of benfotiamine and I've not understood why that would not be preferable to standard B-1??

Here is a good thread on benfotiamine: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

Here is the article that Doctor Berg cites in favor of using riboflavin/vitamin B2:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

It is not a study – it is a theoretical discussion. I did try riboflavin at 100 milligrams daily for a couple of months and did not notice any change.

The control group which was a low-fat diet actually did slightly better on UPDRS part III than the keto group - see image.

Only on part 3, though? What is the difference between part 2 & part 3?

UPDRS scoring system is here:

Part two is a patient report on motor symptoms, part three is motor symptom examination.

And Dr. Mark Matsons work on fasting.

I think I posted it or maybe I just put it in a comment

In the NZ trial were they eating seed oils, dairy, and other highly inflammatory but “keto” foods? When I’ve previously looked in to this trial I could not find the actual diet. Keto is too simplistic and broad. One can be a very unhealthy vegetarian if done wrong. Same obviously applies to keto.

And Dr. Panda is excellent for fasting.

thank you cc. I just got this in an email today and planned on watching.

I think I got the doctors names confused. I will have to refind who it is that did a trial for intermittent fasting. That’s what I meant to send. Oops

Are you familiar with Dr. Kara Fitzergalds trial for diet? Not pd specific. But it reversed epigenetic age.

"Keto is too simplistic and broad." Would you elaborate?

in reply toMBAnderson

There is “dirty keto” and then there quality keto. Just getting in to ketosis is not enough if it is via inflammatory foods like seed oils and dairy.
