I've read that PD can cause skin disease? Lately I have patches of dry skin on my face. Anyone else have this problem?

I have. There are prescriptions and good over the counter creams and soaps that take care of it well. Not to worry.

I have it, like a majority (?) of PwPs.

It's a fungus, Malassezia, easily treatable with the proper cream, and even with commercial shampoos.

The curious thing about it is that some authors suspect that fungus to be a cause of Parkinson's and not only a consequence, because of its neuro toxicity and its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

We have discussed this problem before and the fact that this fungus doesn't cause PD.

" some authors suspect that fungus to be a cause of Parkinson's and not only a consequence, because of its neuro toxicity and its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier." = conjecture. Like assuming constipation causes PD.

round and round we go.

My HWP had quite a bit of this on his face and head. We purchased a washcloth from Norwex (a company that uses cloths and just water for cleaning and personal care). We got the washcloths so that he wouldn't be afraid of losing his balance in the shower when his eyes were closed due to shampoo suds running down his face. Since he has little hair he didn't really need the shampoo and this has worked great. We've also noticed that his seborrheic dermatitis is gone. Take a look at Norwex.com for more info on why their cloths don't need harsh chemicals and soaps.

I highly recommend getting a shower chair. For my Dad with PD, Showering was an anxiety inducing experience and became a relaxing one

Yes. We have one. I am a fan of the idea but it takes up too much of the space so he hasn't wanted to put it in there.

Yes. I’m glad you asked. I get dried spots around my temples along the edge of my hairline. I use “Aquafor” which has lanolin as a key ingredient. If you are allergic to Lanolin, use Vaseline.

Yes, same with my husband. As it’s probably a fungus, he uses a bit of clotrimozol when it flairs up. (Lotrimin) He also gets weird brownish yellow rings on his back which resolve with clotrimozol.

He’s got a lot of dandruff/eczema on the scalp which I haven’t figured out yet…do others have this also?
