You should taper the Neupro dosage rather than quit all at once. As you taper you can add Mucuna to make up the difference. I would use the whole bean unconcentrated Mucuna rather than the concentrated extract form. The extracts can cause nausea,
He should discuss this issue with his prescribing physician. Presumably his protocol is reduced in a manner similar to his escalation of each drug and done over an identical or slightly longer period of time.
Usually neupro is started at 2mg/day for at least 30-90 days, so he could have a 3 month taper to "stone cold". Rytary's escalation is usually much shorter, but his 61/245 x 2 is not a beginner's dose.
Converting mucuna to an equivalency of these 2 drugs is almost impossible in my opinion because neupro is a transdermal application, not an oral, and mucuna contains no carbidopa.
Non concentrated Mucuna contains somewhere between 2.5%-7% of L-dopa depending on the brand, lot, and batch, and contains no carbidopa. It is non pharmaceutical.
Sinemet generic comes in IR (i.e. 25/100) and CR forms with varying amounts of 100% L-Dopa and carbidopa.
