What would happen if hubby just stopped ALL his meds for few days?Maybe would let us know if that is causing the fatigue?I have a call into Dr but they an take up to 48 hrs to get back to you??He also takes pain meds for ankylosing spondylitis.
MEDS: What would happen if hubby just... - Cure Parkinson's
MEDS
Do not stop w/o directions from doctor. Many meds require a gradual backing off to avoid serious side effects.
We are thinking it is the hydrocodone for back pain with extra strength tylenol that is making him so tired!??Think he can stop tylenol and see if that helps?
You can back off the tylenol.
Be careful with the hydrocodone - if he has been taking it a long time he is likely subject to withdrawal - see here: americanaddictioncenters.or...
As to his PD meds not a good idea and could be a disaster. In any case they can be expected to counteract the fatigue. If there are specific meds you are questioning, let us know what they are.
Just doing research and says tylenol with Hydrocodone- could cause worse fatigue if he also takes 500mg more of tylenol but the pain nurse told me to try it few weeks ago, guess it is not good for him?He only takes sinemet 3xs day, blood pressure med 2 of them, cholesterol, cymbalta 1 x at bedtime, and meloxicam, the heart Dr put him on blood pressure meds in 2007 before diagnosed with Parkinson's and keeps him on it? Seems like a lot of pills to me?But the pain specialist for back pain, the heart Dr from 4way bypass, and neurologist all know what he is taking?Just hate he has to take all this stuff, and still in pain!!He seems to have more problems with the back pain than the PD?
No don't stop medication suddenly.
It might be a good idea to see your pharmacist and get advice about the mix of drugs being taken, and about timimg the doses.
Pain is all encompassing, you're right, I bet he hates it much more than the PD symptoms. I agree with M rosew, probably most immediately available advise would be your chemist/pharmacist. They can then tell you if they think you should up it to a Dr visit. From the outside sounds like the hydrocodene most likely the culprit.
Do not stop medication without help from his doctor!! It is not a good idea, my sister in law did that several years ago, she was doing well so did not see the reason to continue all her meds.....a cocktail for depression and bipolar disorder , since then, several years ago it has been hell and she probably won't ever recover😥
I experimented not taking my medications for PD for one day , as a research study participant , I was asked to, the result was a fabulous surprise of feeling well and being able to function without them . I was on since 5 years , so the next day went back taking my 10 pills and contacted my neurologist for an appointment, she has me reducing Sinemet gradually , used to take 8, now on 4 and doing well!😉 Good luck !
Melloxicam can also cause tiredness and is not supposed to be taken with blood pressure meds. I had a terrible reaction to it when my doctor prescribed it after knee replacement . I also can not tolerate hydrocodone . I have found that doctors are not always aware of drug interactions and /or how they interact with Parkinson's meds. I now run my list of meds past the pharmacist and then go to my neurologist . Good luck!
Diane,
Thank you-seems like the Dr's just hand out pills and makes it worse--when we go to Dr he takes every medication with him so they know what he takes>I am going to ask the pharmacist about this! When you go to 3 different Dr's and go 3 or 6 months between visits and can not get them on phone for 2 days to return your call you have to do it for your loved one!!!Thank God for forums like this it helps more than the Dr's!
