C/L dosage - feedback

Hello all!

Curious about dosing on C/L. I just started taking 25/100 within the last week because I have been taking Mucuna for quite some time and I just got so sick of vomiting. My question is I find myself taking two tabs at least every 2 to 3 hours to keep the tremors at bay and even then I feel like I have to take more. I know that’s probably overdosing on it but nothing seems to help the tremors. I’m calling my doctor this week to see what they think about it. I also worry that my PD is progressing much faster then I would like because I do have to take more than two at a time every few hours. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S as an FYI when I was taking Mucuna alone I was using Barlow‘s and taking four cabs in the morning and then 2 to 3 caps every 3 to 4 hours throughout the day, but had to stop due to the vomiting.

For sure. Today I took 2x 25/100 at 830 am, started working at 930 am, I went til about 330, took 2 more as my blood sugar dipped, and I was hungry, plus I broke a sweat and I knew I needed to take it then as those have have been my signs that the meds are wearing off. A new symptom has been happening too - my upper lip, front gums and front teeth get numb like I’ve just come from the dentist, and my facial muscles near both eyes seem to rise as if I had just woken up. I wanted sugar, ate some sweets and within 20 minutes no symptoms, no waiting or anything. It’s now 818, no evening symptoms just yet. The oddest of things I tell you.

P.s. was on 2x 100 mg Amantadine and at first it was great but I had to stop it due to the fact that it made my throat so incredibly dry that I could not swallow at all and it felt as if I had sand paper for an esophagus, and food could not be swallowed towards the evening.

Somewhere in Africa you can find him

There is a maximum recommended dose of carbidopa of 200 mg/day. More than that can cause orthostatic hypotension.

There is a carbidopa levodopa formulation of 10/100 available if one has to take a lot of levodopa.

Tremor in 2015, Dx 2017, just started meds this year as Mucuna was too much with the vomiting.

Yes it was on an empty stomach in the AM or it would not work. Over time it gave me way too much gas, dissension and the vomiting was horrid. I was taking over 1000 mg in the morning and then over 500 in the afternoon and evening. I don’t believe it was working over time as I wasn’t getting the most levodopa as I could have. I don’t know what the normal amount is.

In some African countries C/L tabs are prescribed for insomnia?

It helps if you drink a lot of water and try to take your pills about the same time every day.

I didn't realize Mucuna can cause vomiting- good you stopped! You can feel nausea with C/L as well. Yes the tremors can be upsetting- 2-3 tabs every 3 hours sounds like a lot! Do you get real sleepy and/or "out of it " feelings??I might have asked but do you do regular exercise? Have u also tried mindfulness meditation ? Any supplements?

Yes it does seem like a lot and no I don’t feel out of it but I do at times get a little bit sleepy. I also have Hashimoto’s so I take medicine for that and I take 4000 IU of D3 supplements a day. Additionally I also take HydroClorethiazide.

I meditate twice a day and I have a personal trainer that I see three times a week. The issue that I have with exercising more which I used to do almost every day is that the tremors becomes so bad that I can’t move and so therefore I become stiff even when I try to make any kind of running attempt. I don’t think my case is unique but I don’t think it is all that, and given a lot of the issues that I do have. The doctors originally gave me a diagnosis of mild Parkinson’s but given a lot of the stuff that’s happening with medicine that is not working and things not lining up correctly they are confused as well.

Yes the vomiting was not fun and let me tell you I have never projectile vomited more in my life in the last few years LOL

Hi.

There is a theory (not sure how proven it is) that the levodopa ingested (whether taken through mucuna or C/L), that does not cross the blood brain barrier, is what causes the nausea. So for each dose of mucuna that you were taking, too much of it was bypassing the brain, and therefore causing the severe nausea. So if you can get more of the levodopa from the mucuna, into your brain, you will get both more on time and less nausea.

The carbidopa contained in a C/L pill, assists the levodopa to cross the BBB.

I also was on a mucuna only regime, but assuming the above and after some trials, I now take 1/2 a c/l pill, twice a day 8am and 2pm, and mucuna 4 times a day. This puts enough carbidopa into my system to allow more mucuna to be absorbed during the entire day, and reducing my nausea to manageable levels.

I have explained the reasoning because everyone is different, and this is what works for me. Please consult you neuro if you have any doubt about what you are doing.

Regards, and good luck.

Hi thanks for the feedback. You don’t want to know how much C/L I take! It would blow your mind. I see my Neuro next month and we have to discuss a few things just to see what’s going on. It should be an interesting meeting.
