I can't find the reference but someone here said that one capsule of Dopaboost is a direct equivilent to one 25/100 Sinemet? How do you come up with that? Dopaboost has 425 mg of mucuna at 60%. Please help.
Dopaboost: I can't find the reference but... - Cure Parkinson's
Dopaboost
I don't know anything about Dopaboost, but if by 60%, they mean 60% of it is levodopa, then 60% of 425 mg is 255 mg, obviously.
It was yours truly that made the comment.
Do not mix up dosage and the amount per capsule. The dosage is two capsules.
So here is the math
Mucuna Extract ( per dose - 2 capsules) 425 mg
L-Dopa concentration = 60% = 255 mg as MBA pointed out
L-Dopa concentration Per capsule = 225/2 = 114 mg
So it does match the amount of LDopa in a Sinemet 25/100 combo.
Thanks for the interest 🤗
A gentle correction with great respect but it will be helpful for people searching because you provide some excellent information. It is “mucuna” [pruriens], not “manuca.” Maybe your autocorrect has subbed it that way.
Where can you get dopa boost?Dopa plus is from pure encapsulation. It would be interesting to compare the two. I'd like to approach my neurologist with this information. I'm currently on c/l (25-100) 1 pill three times a day. I would like to go off it.Don't know if the improvement I'm having is from intense PT/OT or the c/l. Your thoughts thanks
Sinemet contains carbidopa and levodopa in a 1:4 ratio. The carbidopa increases the amount of levodopa that gets to the brain approximately 4-fold.
Dopaboost does not contain carbidopa, but it does include a lot of other chemicals that may, or may not, have some effect on the bioavailability of the levodopa.
I think it is important that any equivalence analysis takes this into account.
I write based on my spouse experience with this supplement DopaBoost. It is a one to one match for Sinemet 25/100. She could not believe it herself.
And it works better for her, so much so, she has not filled her neurologist prescription for Sinemet.
She switched over after one year on Sinemet and has been on DopaBoost for the last 18 months.
The prescription at outset was for three Sinemet 25/100 tablets. She currently takes three DopaBoost capsules.
I know there should not be a supplement that matches the Gold Standard for Parkinson treatment. But from my experience this is it 🌺
What about the carpidopa in the Sinemet? Others have said that is needed.
This from johntPM above - “Dopaboost does not contain carbidopa, but it does include a lot of other chemicals that may, or may not, have some effect on the bioavailability of the levodopa.”
DopaBoost does not need carbidopa. It targets different enzymes. Cardidopa targets Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC or AAAD), to prevent the peripheral breakdown of Dopamine.
DopaBoost uses Quercetin and EGCg in place of carbidopa: it targets MAO and COMT enzymes to prevent the peripheral breakdown of Dopamine. This is downstream from AADC.
Quercetin naturally inhibits the activities of two enzymes—COMT (catechol-o-methyl transferase) and MAO (monoamine oxidase)—which are involved in the metabolism and breakdown of dopamine. Quercetin works synergistically with Mucuna pruriens and EGCg to help preserve dopamine levels.

I'm interested in this CaseyInsights I take rasagiline and recently I have thought it would be useful to have a bit of a 'boost' on days when there's a lot on (mum moving into retirement home, teenagers doing exams etc) so I bought dopaboost.
Reading your post and a couple of the articles you signpost I wonder at the wisdom of combining the two. I am only taking one dopaboost in the morning every now and then but if they both work on inhibiting enzymes like MAO such supplementation might risk something like seratonin syndrome? I had been thinking about it as a way to get a bit more dopamine when I need it rather than start on C/L yet.
What do you think?
Where pharmaceuticals are concerned I would err on the side of caution.
So I would not take 'DopaBoost' which uses Quercetin & EGCG (Green Tea) as a natural MAO inhibitors with Rasagiline a pharmaceutical MAO inhibitor.
Certainly do not take them together, but you might want to try rotating them on a periodic basis.
Where do you get your double boost? Is anyone helping you regulate the dosage? Thanks for your response
