hear you on that one I don't think they realize PD has'nt got an age preference I was 48 when they said I had pre-parkinson's...why did,nt they tell me it was PD and be done with it...but I went on for 2 more years thinking the tremors would go away...they did'nt so I went back to the Dr. and she ran some more tests and sure she confirmed what I suspected anyways...PD...I am now fighting SS cause I cannot work anymore...had to hire a lawyer because they said I could go back t o work...I'm 51 did not ask to get PD why do I have to fight the gov. to receive my benefits I paid into the system...PD they say is an elderly on set disease....I ain't even a Sr citizen yet!!!!

I was 50 when symptoms started. Diagnosed 3 years later and managed to work 7 more years. I was self employed... otherwise would'nt have made it that long.

It still is hard to believe that you have to fight for disability. I still feel shame over accepting SS worsening my depression. I'd gladly work today if I could maintain a schedule. Productivity was the best antidepressant of my life... the anger, depression and anxiety are as disabling as the motor symptoms.

ha I was a PT too here in Canda , had an ortho practice for 20 years , stopped working 4 years ago.Not working has been the very worst part of this PD, I miss my patients so much and have isolated myself. I too feel shame in receiving disability payments adn when I think of it all I get very down adn anxious...then my motor symptoms come on strong....seems to be no answer

don't ever give up fighting them, I am in Canada and am 52, after 1 1/2 years I finally got my CPP disbility. I too was told I had some form of parkinsonism when I was 48, dx at age 50 with PD. I hate pd , I hate what it has done to me and my family, cannot work anymore, friends dwindle away, people think I am stupid or drunk, it is a yucky disease to get, dont know if i can ever accept it

I'm 56 yrs old and was fighting Lupus and active Sarcoidosis when I was given the diagnosis of PD in July 2011. Sarcoidosis had damaged the left side of my heart muscle and caused an electrical problem with my heart. It had also attacked my skin. My dr. was concerned it had gotten into my central nervous system because of the symptoms I was experiencing. He sent me to a neuro to be evaluated for Neurosarcoidosis; but instead was told I have PD. Honestly, I don't know which one is worst. I refused to accept the PD diagnosis, and got a 2nd opinion on Dec 1, 2011. The 2nd opinion confirmed the PD diagnosis too. I've had a hard time accepting this, which I am sure many have; but I won't give up and I won't give in to it. It's tough, though. I feel your pain.

my drivers license expired as my 5 years were up, I had to reveal the PD diagnosis, now have to do road test, it never ends a week before my birthday not one of my 3 doctors even mentioned my driving ability , all of a sudden they dont trust their judgement on my driving abilities...we get discriminated right from the DX... we need to make people more aware of PD , great celebration Of Ali today Obama just wished him a Happy BD and actually said Parkinson's Disease !!

awwwww I really feel for you - my husband is about your same age and that is exactly how we both feel why at f.##k 48 -49 yet why at all is right. I have always told him you can either fight this shit or let it win - I would like to think you are a fighter and will keep strong in this nasty disease :)
