I found this study intriguing. I signed up for it and was accepted. They are still enrolling if it's anybody's cup of tea.

Pragmatic Cyclical Lower Extremity Exercise Trial for Parkinson's Disease

"The study is a randomized controlled clinical trial designed to examine the disease-altering capabilities of a 12 month aerobic exercise program for individuals with PD. A total of 250 individuals with PD will be randomized into 1) a home-based aerobic exercise program, or 2) a usual and customary care (UCC). Subjects in the home exercise group will receive a commercially available Peloton indoor stationary bicycle delivered to their home for a 12 month exercise period. Individuals in the UCC group will continue their current level of physical activity."

Hi Sane 1 since the sampling is randomized, the chances of getting into the stationary cycle exercise group is 50%,I suppose. I will like to be in this group.

Yes. That's what I figured going in. Getting a Peloton for a year was quite an incentive. However I would be OK in a control group too as I have a good spinner bike (minus the Peloton screen and workouts) that I will use all winter anyway. I ended up in the Peloton group and am excited to start the program.

I've seen this before. Don't remember whether it was on this site or others where I monitor or lurk.

I believe I found it "lurking" the clinical trials site.

Thanks for information! However, the website states: "Motor and non-motor assessments will be conducted at the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic or the University of Utah" - so according to my understanding if you don't live close by you have to be able to travel there.

That's correct. Three trips over the year. Three days testing each (on and off meds). Need to be fairly close. Probably helps if you like biking...Lol.

Ha, I should sign hubby up for the UCC group as he wouldn’t be bothered with trying to see if it helped. Feeling frustrated today😞

I live in North Carolina and am part of this study. I traveled to Cleveland in August to start. I did not get into the Peleton bike group and was disappointed, but am glad I'm part of the trial because it has been pushing me to walk more. I work out about 2.5 hours each day. I also get a call from someone at the Cleveland Clinic every other week which makes me stay on the mark. It's interesting to be a part of this study and it has definitely increased my daily steps.

You live quite a distance from Cleveland. I am impressed that you work out 2.5 hours a day. Is there a required amount of exercise required of the control group or just continue your usual routine?

If you are selected into the Peleton group, I believe you have to commit to 45 min 3X a week. I've been doing my 2.5 hours long before I entered this trial. I do one hour of water aerobics and 1.5 hours of Rock Steady Boxing (via Zoom) every weekday. I also walk 6,000 steps a day; I started these steps as a part of the trial, but they did not "assign" the steps; I just decided on that number.

My six grandchildren are my inspiration for this activity to combat my PD. I want to be as active as possible so I can interact with them as a 71-year old grandmother, rather than as an invalid.

Can we still sign up? I already go to Cleveland for another study. I wonder if they would coordinate trips, altho' three trips a year isn't bad as my daughter lives nearby. I live in Indiana.

Yes enrollment is still open. You would have to discuss with the intake people about your specifics.

I placed a call today, left a message. Hopefully, they will call back.

You have to be on PD medications (sinemet, etc.), so MP or selegiline alone does not qualify. Nor does self-diagnosis. Accessibility to CC is a must.

Yes. There is as with all clinical studies a list of inclusion and exclusion criteria. This list is also included in the above URL..

yes, several members of the support groups I run checked into this CT many months ago. Nobody wanted to travel to Cleveland.

Would they pay enough to cover my expense to fly from Florida to Utah three times?

Obviously the geography is a limiting factor in potential study enrollment. I often search for studies based on location first.

I have family in SL. I wouldn't mind the destination. But can you tell me how much they are paying those who participate in the study?

I don’t believe they are paying participants but a token amount maybe 50$ per visit paid at the end (confirm with study handlers). If you are in the Peloton group you get the use of the bike and software for a year. You are given a Fitbit type of tracker with ankle strap and heart rate strap to keep.

I was drawn to the study because ....I love biking. I had been curious about the Peloton. I fit the criteria. I was fairly close by. And it was non invasive and didn’t require experimental meds (because I am not as courageous as some of you on this wonderful site). Perfect fit for me.
