Hi iqbaliqbal,

interesting article. do you have any idea what the 2nd type of strategy is he is referring to in the below paragraph? does he just mean supplements in general? thxs

--------

When I think about it, there are three strategies I follow for treating Parkinson’s. The first is traditional and deals with the “Cardinal Signs” (Symptoms), namely, tremor, stiffness, postural instability, and slowness of movement; these drugs are Carbidopa/Levodopa, and a dopamine agonist. The second type of compound, Complementary and Alternative (CAM), focuses on maintaining control of the brain micro-environment to keep the dopaminergic neurons left alive and functional. And the third class of medicine is the role of exercise to be neuroprotective and, hopefully, promote neuroplasticity.

You are right. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the term for medical products and practices that are not part of standard medical care. This may include practices such as massage, acupuncture, tai chi, and supplements, vitamins herbal medicine etc
