Is anyone just taking mucuna pruriens seed powder and no other synthetic L-dopa medicine? If so how did you start and how much do you take now?
My husband presently takes Z Nartural Foods organic Mucuna Pruriens Seed Powder but he is not sure how much he should increase it? Unfortunately, though his regular doctor believes he has Parkinson's he won't be diagnosed till late December.
He just recently started Restore Gold from <wehaveparkinsons.com>.
Any info would be helpful, Thanks, Diane

"Supplement-wise, 5g of Mucuna Prurients dried powder has been used with efficacy in some human studies on Parkinson's Disease and Fertility. This dose or doses upwards of it should be a good starting point."
"Compounds contraindicated with Levodopa/Carbidopa treatment most likely extend to Mucuna Pruriens and should be approached with caution. This appears to be narrow-eye glaucoma suffers, those using pharmaceutical MAO inhibitors, and those who have a history of melanoma or suspicious and undiagnosed skin lesions."
The glaucoma and hypertension issues, and most other side effects are likely to be worse with macuna than C/L since to get the same amount of dopamine in the brain about 4 times as much is metabolised in the rest of the body.
hello! My husband has used mucuna for a long time. I think it is generally good, and start off low. Eventually we had to use 99% L dopa (but from the mucuna bean), and this is strong stuff, and does cause dyskinesia in the long term. But I believe it doesn't create as many complications as the synthetic drugs do, but everyone responds differently. Be kind to yourselves
We really haven't seen a great improvement, but he is stable. Actually Dave, my husband, was already taking most of the ingredients that are in Restore separately before starting on it. As I recall we first discovered the benefits of TUDCA which is one of the 7 ingredients in Restore.
He was suffering with jaundice at the time and the doctors did not know why. TUDCA has to do with bile production and we thought it would help his jaundice clear up. At the time we could not get Restore as they had a sudden request for it and their production was not keeping up. After telling the gentleman our situation he recommended that we could buy TUDCA separately, which we did. And he took it for a month are so till the RESTORE was in stock again. TUDCA has many benefits and you might look it up. It did help clear up his jaundice.
Presently we discovered BioPQQ. It is a natural form of pyrroloquinoline quinone. We just ordered the NOW brand from Vitacost (great price) so he hasn't tried it yet. It is said to encourage the growth of new mitochondria and enhances their performance and energy output, have a positive impact on the nerve growth factor (NGF) and prevent cognitive decline etc. I am anxious for him to try it and pray that it will make a real difference for him. You really should consider it.
