Does B1 make you tired?

Adagionet profile image

Started B1 at 1500 mg during the day. First couple of days it made me feel relaxed and warm. Then it started to make me tired. Especially if combined with Magnesium. (The two work together.)

I did do a search on this topic. Didn’t find any direct answer to my question. But in one answer it said that the dose may be too high if there are adverse effects.

So after waiting a couple of days I’ll start at a lower dose and see if it helps?

Anybody else found that it (initially) makes you tired or doesn’t suit you at any dose?

Ps. I don’t have Parkinson’s. I’m just tired a lot of the time.

How did you find your way here if you don’t have PD? I don’t recall reading about anyone who became tired after taking HDT. I know when my dose was too high it caused agitation. Several others reported the same thing.

Found my way here after googling for B1. Got registered. Found out only afterwards it’s for Parkinson’s. So I won’t be asking about Parkinson’s. Just about B1.

No, I didn’t have agitation.

Magnesium is a relaxant. Depending on the form, it may indeed induce sleepiness, so it's best to take it in the evening.

B1 helps the Krebs cycle for ATP responsible for energy, so it shouldn't directly cause loss of energy or tiredness, unless you're lacking in other nutrients for the clock to turn. Think of B1 as a team leader, but it also needs other co-factors/nutrients and other B's to allow it lead or "spark" the engine.

Thanks. I take other B’s too. Etc.

You also should be aware of paradoxical healing reactions, an unpredictable duration of certain symptoms getting worse before they start to improve.

See the below for more detail.

This could be it! Thank you!

You need fat soluble vitamins and also minerals, not just b vitamins. Car parts analogy works well.

Absolutely. Any nutritional block will halt the metabolic process. Zinc is also high on the list, as many are deficient.

Have you had any formal diagnosis for your tiredness? Please provide more background. Any autoimmune diseases? Your vitamin D level? Thyroid Function test? Anemia? Chronic Fatigue Syndrom? B1 normally helps when there is lack of energy production from cell mitochondria.

I tried the HDT protocol but it made me very lethargic once I got up to 2000mg per day. I am now on 250mg per day (that's as much as I can tolerate) and feel like it's giving me some benefit.

Thanks! Good to know!

I think Thyroid Function Test , vitamin D, complete blood count, Liver Function Test, Bone profile, Prolactin tests would be helpful plus minimising carbohydrates intake and reducing weight if that’s the case.

Why did you start b1 in the first place, what was your medical complaint and what was your goal? What have your medical professionals ruled in, and what have they ruled out? What have they yet to look for at all? What is your general condition to start with? What have your nutritional professionals said? Why are you talking to us instead of all of them? If you make people guess, you'll get what you've paid, not more. Try to fill in some of the blanks, you're quite safe to try, this is an anonymous website.

B1 is used parentererally for energy, that's injection, but it's really a momentary patch for something temporarily acute, like air for a hole in your tire when what you need is a patch.

Adagionet,

There are many forums that discuss fatigue where the use of b1 is discussed along with other treatments.

Surely your question will find a more coherent answer there since PD itself causes great fatigue due to a brain injury of dopaminergic cells even before taking any supplement. So your question is illogical posed here to Pwps like me because I was already tired from the disease before I got b1.

It is not illogical at all. I’m very wel able to tell is something makes me more tired than usual.

Cheers.

Thanks for this much background, sounds like you need a psychiatrist familiar with all the different forms of antidepressants. In long term depression, some of them are subject to eventual "poop-out" (that's what psychiatrists actually say among themselves, those who talk to each other that is). If you happen to be deficient in vitamin D, then there may be additional inputs to your depression related to that deficiency. Other conditions can cam, Tinley relate to depression, ranging from viruses to toxic work environment or social environment or economic problems et cetera.
