An association between certain viral infections and neurodegenerative diseases has been recognized, but largely ignored or dismissed as controversial, for decades. Recent epidemiological studies have renewed scientific interest in investigating microbial interactions with the central nervous system (CNS). This review examines past and current clinical findings and overviews the potential molecular implications of viruses in PD pathology.

I find it extremely frustrating. I am amazed that the fb Parkinson research group turned down a simple link to Dr dourmashkin work-please see my earlier post. Again I want to remind everyone that for decades the microbial etiology of stomach ulcers was dismissed as 'impossible ' . You see conventional wisdom considered stomach environment to be too acidic for the bacteria to survive. God forbid we find that pd is caused by enterovirus and come up with a vaccine to prevent it just like polio. Well we could get rid of the dreaded disease. Wouldn't that be awful?
