What do you do when your only family believes PD is satanic possession and requires exorcism? thanks...newbie.

Just pray for them........
Probably nothing, but maybe ask them to read the Michael J Fox Foundation website and the National Parkinson's Foundation website.

Let them try the exorcism?! Lol. Sorry. I couldn’t resist. We’re all desperate for some cure — and this is the first time I’ve heard exorcism as a potential solution.
I’m not sure what would persuade your family. Do they believe all conditions are caused by satan? If not, then there is some hope that they can be persuaded with facts, case studies, anecdotes, etc.

tried but watched uncle grandfather cousin and brother all get matrilineal pd.............ive lived with it my whole life. dr have informed them as well as ecclesiastical types............
My condolences. I have a few relatives like that. I keep my distance and try to be respectful at the same time, except when they are explicitly racist or misogynous, at which time I rather lose my cool. I’ve found that information has no effect when fanaticism takes hold. I hope you have friends and chosen “family” who provide you with the support that you need. If not, try to build some good relationships. Friends can be a “chosen family” when the biological one doesn’t provide what you need,

So true Ashley!! Definitely pray for them for no one is beyond hope. Perhaps buy them a book by Father Amorth He was the chief exorcist at the Vatican for many many years. He died at age 91 in 2016.

I'd cut myself off entirely from every one of them and never look back. Then surround myself with those who will support me in a positive way.

Is it ALL illness or are they just prejudiced against Parkinson's? And where in the Bible does it say that they know what they are talking about?

I just sent my sister info on the site “Bring Change to Mind”. An organization started by the actress Glenn Close. Her sister has bipolar disorder. The site is an amazing resource on all sorts of mental illness. I found my entire family described on the site. I am not saying this will help you much but I found comfort in understanding things a little better. Just out of curiosity where do you and your family live?

I also have some crazy relatives. They have done a great deal of harm in the family. I avoid them like the plague. You will never change their minds. Repeat: you will never change their minds. What you can do is take good care of yourself, minimize the stress in your life, build up a wall of good people who care about each other and will give you support and reliable information.
As my therapist used to say, don't send the little child out one more time to do the impossible.

It’s difficult enough to have PD, but to have unsupportive relatives, and/or have some people believe that it is satanic possession, and an exorcism is needed, why, that is over the top! Unfortunately, I have had some unsupportive relatives, too, but they never blamed my PD, on Satanic Possession! Sometimes, when there isn’t support, the best thing to do, is to have minimal contact with those, who are being so nasty to you, if at all possible. Align your discussions with those who are supportive of you, who don’t put you down. One hard lesson, I’ve learned in life, is that I can’t change the attitude, and dispositions of people, who are unsupportive and who ridicule, so there’s no sense talking to them, to convince them to think otherwise! I hope you’ll be able to find some relief, from this unwanted persecution, and be able to get on with battling the formidable hurdles, that can come, with having PD! Wishing you only the best, beehive23!

Just be proud that you can think for yourself despite all the crazies around you. A whole lot of people can't do that. You are special!

I'm in California where fires have caused the air to be suffocating. I feel for you as you must feel worse than than this all of the time. It is scary.

You might refer them to the 10th chapter of the gospel of John, where Jesus healed the man who had been blind from birth. His disciples asked if he was blind because he or his parents had sinned. He replied that neither had sinned. Your family members' belief is not only unkind, it is also not supported by the Bible.

A reputable exorcist only concludes a person is possessed after all other causes are ruled out. They send a person for medical and psychological examination to rule out these issues as the cause of problems. So a reputable exorcist would take medical advice and conclude that your issues were due to a medical problems not possession.
yes im not worried about it going further its just the fact that a close family member would entertain such an ideology feels very hurtful. to diminish chronic illness to magical demons is not a viable approach to any healing i know of. cheers! thanks for your response! my dr's are appalled.
