Has anyone gotten OFF of Sinimet without going on another Parkinson med? If so, what were your withdrawal symptoms?

I did adjust my daily dose downward from a total of 600 mg of levodopa, via Sinemet, to 200 mg as a result of a sudden improvement, without any adverse effect. I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to try this if they still needed it.

What do you attribute your sudden improvement to? But congratulations!

Thanks! That was three years ago. The tremor that was so bothersome at that time improved greatly and that improvement has been maintained. However, I do struggle with motor impairment. What I did is not for everybody. I tell the story here:

Your story about Qigong was fascinating. My husband (Shazam) is doing the "recovery" program with Howard Shifke which includes Qigong Movement. He was taking Sinimet 25/100 4 times a day and took himself off after a 2 week period. Result was a frozen body - no tremors, just difficulty moving muscles. ( Note he never had tremors after 5 years with PD). He has decided to go back on meds and continue Qigong/recovery program with Howard. Thanks for your reply..

In the future I definitely recommend that he make any changes gradually.

I came off Ropinirole and Sinemet for a year with reasonable success, but got tired of constant tremor and went back to half the dosage. I think going on a Keto Diet and for over a year now Carnivore Diet enabled the reduction in medication. If you are coming off the meds make sure to taper to zero over at least a fortnight. Good Luck! Best regards, Phil 2bats

Hello phil

Why did you decide to (temporarily) come off ropinirole and sinemet? Side effects i guess? If so, how bad was the side effects? did your reduced dose help you get the right balance between primary PD symptoms and meds side effects? Thank you

I wanted to see if I could treat the PD with Keto Diet alone, which helped a great deal. I am convinced that a high fat + low or very low carb improves health in a multitude of ways. Current official dietary recommendations are actively ruining many peoples lives.

It’s a balancing act to get enough tremor relief and avoid the side effects

Thanks...see our reply above. Our doctor highly endorses the diet...a definite help.

I had DBS last fall and have not been able to get the settings and meds balanced. 1 25/100 - 5 X daily) Even tried Ryrary unsuccessfully. So my doc at Mayo took me off all C/L cold turkey! No withdrawal problems at all. I am now on DBS only. No dyskinesia

but do have som tremor

Cont: This is quite unusual. Don't even try it w/out your doc's guidence, esp. if you don't have DBS.
