Justme4,
I take HDM everyday and have for quite awhile. I have taken melatonin for many years. I have put up 2 posts regarding melatonin. One post is about using melatonin to treat Covid-19 and the other is about using melatonin to treat PD. Here are links to those posts:

Thank you! May I ask how much you take? You can on me
Justme4,
The highest dose I have taken is 180 mg/night and I am currently experimenting at the 60 to 90 mg range. I do not recommend dosage to anyone, just mention what I am doing. You should get your doctor's approval to be certain that it does not interfere with any meds you may be taking.
Some people simply can not tolerate melatonin at any dose.

Long time reader, seldom poster...I have used melatonin 20mg nightly for 10 Years . I use this and med Marijuana for sleeping. 63,m diagnosed 6 yrs.
My PD husband took 3 g of Melatonin for years. Before he died, he took 10 to 20 each night for sun downing, and it helped him a lot. He never had any bad reactions to it.
I meant 3 mg and 10 to 20 mg above.
My sleep doctor advised not going over 13mg per night. No added efficacy, and possible side effects (i think that's what he said.) I use 10 mg Natrol Time Release to help with my REM sleep disorder. It definitely calmed down my dreams and screams.
Antihistamines are best for me. Generic or branded, either.
I take the brand Remfresh and it works great
I take melatonin to help me sleep. I am prescribed 12mg a night of slow release melatonin. It is the maximum dose that my sleep doctor was willing to prescribe. I add to this another 10+ mg of fast release melatonin. It has definitely helped my sleep to a significant degree, although the broken sleep pattern is returning. Increasing the dose (or taking more if I wake up after 4-5 hours) sometimes works. And sometimes doesn't. I had 7.5 hours of sleep (across 3 periods) the night before last, and only 4 hours last night.
I do find that combining cannabis oil with melatonin has generally helped a lot.
I'm looking for other commercially available extended release melatonin. I am frustrated that the three brands I have found all include vitamin b6 in their slow-release melatonin tablets. Unfortunately, it is in the form of pyridoxine , which is not the best kind, and not something you want to take too much of. It's probably not a problem if you are taking a tablet or so a night, but be aware of how much you are taking. It's frustrating, because I take a different form of b6, and I don't need this added supplement!
