I started using a similar product about 9 months ago, several times a day and when taking my 1-2 mile walks. It helped tremendously with my back and hip pain - I hadn't realized how much my forward lean was contributing to problems. Better posture became a habit, and I haven't needed it lately. Even intermittent left arm and shoulder pain ( worse when I walked up hills, therefore leading to expensive cardiac workup) has lessened by 80%. A great experiment is to wear a brace like this while going up and down stairs - correcting your center of gravity ( and using core muscles), makes it much easier.

Yes, the VA gave me a similar product and while they are not strong enough to actually hold your shoulders back, their ever presence reminds you to do it which helped relieve back and neck pain.
