VERY HIGH THIAMINE blood levels

Routine bloodwork last week in hubby has turned up surprising. His THIAMINE blood level is 378.9 with the lab's maximum range being 200.0. I know B1 is not supposed to be toxic. His kidney functions are fine, but his liver enzymes are extremely high, too. The Dr. is running more tests to determine cause of enzyme elevations. Meds hubby takes are Amantadine ( only 2.5 ml day), Senna (four 8.6 tablets a day), Lactulose (60 ml day), Guafenesin (400mg) three times a day, and Loratadine (10mg a day). If anyone can comnent about this, I would be very grateful.

As long as it is the water-soluble HCL, you can clear it quickly if you are concerned or if you have side effects. If it is the fat soluble benfotiame etc, there can be concern and if you discontinue then eventually you can clear it. Use the time to educate yourself thoroughly online. Assuming you are using B 1, we can't know, only you can. Do all the homewofk you can

I searched on thiamine toxicity and found this comment:

" Thiamine toxicity is uncommon; as excesses are readily excreted, although long-term supplementation of amounts larger than 3 gram have been known to cause toxicity."

drugbank.ca/drugs/DB00152

On the other hand, this:

" There is no evidence of thiamine toxicity through oral administration, and the body can excrete excess amounts of thiamine in the urine hence no upper level (UL) has been set for it (Joint FAO/WHO, 2004)."

sciencedirect.com/topics/ag...

Be that as it may, high liver enzymes are concerning. Please keep us posted.

Got anything similar for IM injection?

oh I am SO tired. Of course, I meant to include that. He has been taking IM injections since July 2018. Started very low at 25 ml, now 60 to 65ml once every day. I did take Dr C's advice and stopped for a few days now and then when old symptoms reappeared. We r currently there again. Until 2 months ago I purchased in Texas at reputable Pharmacy. Script was filled with 25 vials of 200 ml per vial and manufacturer was Frese. It has become very hard to find and last script was filled in 100ml ampules from Canadian Pharmacy World. Box says Sandoz division of Novartis but i do not know if that is the manufacturer. i actually think it comes directly from Canada.

He is taking daily injections? Did Dr. C recommend that? I don’t recall hearing (or reading) of anyone taking injections that often.

IM once a day is a lot as far as I understood.

Injections need to be done 2x week not daily (example: Monday and Thursday).

You have to investigate high levels in the blood in your husband now, but remember it's - lack of B1 in the brain - not in the blood, this is what Dr. Costantini studies lead to.

You may have normal B1 blood levels but lack in the brain.

Stop for a week, drink plenty of water. Use oral b1 HCL please when starting again

Is it possible that u know of to reduce levels if I restart it? I think we r in trouble here.

I feel it is a combination of too high IM B1 and a systemic excretion issue. Stopping will bring down the B1 and increased water intake will help with faster flushing. Also not sure what else is helping the absorption and retention of B1.

I am not a doctor. Maybe I should just shut up

Could it be something else causing the liver enzyme problem? What else is he taking? I think green tea extract can cause this too. Lots of supplements have this in them. Look at all the ingredients of everything he is taking and see if there is anything that is duplicated in them just in case there are other things he is overdosing on.

Thats actually the first thing I thought about. He was taking B12, Thiamine, and Senna- Lax. I have stopped the B12 for now (Level of that is >2000) at advice of Dr. ,who just yesterday received the Thiamine levels and has not responded..am certain I will hear from him today. As well, he received more liver panel results yesterday.

Thank you. I believe in supplements, but are wary at the same time. I just started taking some for Bone Health vs Fosamax due to recent osteoporotic level.

My husband was/is not a drinker. Only enjoyed an Ultra Lite beer on occasion WAY back in the day

Yes, if there is any alcohol in the picture you need to cut that out and not go back
