Legs Edema Swollen

Both my legs from the knee down have felt swollen.

The cat scratch on my leg and no blood but a clear fluid. I showed wife and she diagnosed edema.

She called ER to ask do I need to have it looked at. She got cut off. So looking at webmd, not to worry.

I had just started walks in the mornings, I'll continue.

Edema is medical (greek) for "swollen". If its both legs its probably not the cat scratch. It is a fairly common side effect of Pramipexole (and other medication). If it continues best to discuss it with your doctor.

Roy it sounds like you should go to a doctor even if they can't see you at ER. Take care and get better quickly.

First, have a look at your medication.. You may be a bit overdosed with something.. Could be C/L or B1 or anything..

Clinical characterization of Pramipexole induced edema

Abstract

"Objective: To report six patients with PD treated several years with irregular and progressively higher doses of pramipexole who presented with extensive chronic bilateral lower limb edema and/or skin discoloration.

Background: Pramipexole is a non-ergot dopamine agonist that is frequently used as single therapy or in combination for the management of PD and primary restless legs syndrome. Distal edema is a recognized complication and has been previously described"

Hi Roy I find both increasing 'and' reducing the meds triggers side effects in me.

Sounds like cellulitis from the cat scratch , which requires antibiotics. Go to an urgent care center if the er won't see you my friend. Good luck !

Not cat scratch. Scratch came after.

ER was phone problem

Also consider a dvt or rt heart issue. Be safe!

Nothing to suggest cellulitis to me or dvt.

Its a very common side effect of pramipexole. Given time it will probably settle down but i see Roy is not doing that he has chosen to stop the medication.

Hey Roy, how about elevating your legs and some pressure socks. Hope that helps!

With both legs swollen, from edema, it would be prudent, to be seen by a health care professional, for an evaluation, and diagnosis! Unfortunately, I’ve had swelling of both legs, so have had some experience. Yes, the swelling could be a side effect of certain medicines. In my case, I have had varicose veins, and I’ve had thrombophlebitis, caused by a blood clot, in one leg only, with swelling. So, a full evaluation, followed by the proper treatment, by a medical professional, would be the right thing, to do, in my opinion. It’s important to realize that leg swelling, left untreated, could cause complications, going forward.

Edema has to with the lymphatic system not working properly. Exercise or jumping on trampoline helps move the lymphatic system. There’s lymphatic massage too.

I would seek medical advice, my husband had this on BP meds it went away when they changed his meds.

Yes, get your heart and whole cardiovascular system checked immediately then look for infections and lymph system. May need some compression socks and get the feet up a bit and get some exercise too. Edema can put pressure on your heart so I can get in to see somebody

I suffer from Edema from Amantadine (common side effect)

I use support hose from Amazon. They work quite well. Prescribed by my mds.

It can also be a sign of heart failure. Please seek medical attention. I know two people this happened to....one of them died.

I had this issue and stopping pramipexole and using compression pump daily resolved it. If you have cardiologist i would strongly recommend that you see him. I take 1/2 of the .25mg pramipexole pill before i go to bad and so far no issues and it helps with the sleep.

There are several causes for edema. Could be the med. If you push on the swollen area does the indent stay for a few seconds? This could be more serious. Have you noticed a rapid increase in weight, say 2-3 pounds over a day. This could mean a cardiac issue. I would definitely see a doctor just to rule out anything underlying. God speed my friend

You don't want to overlook anything serious, Roy, on the other hand you don't want to get saddled with another med, I understand, which is what the docs frequently recommend. Take care, and be wise. Thinking of you!

Blessings, Ruth
