Palpitations : Anyone else experience... - Cure Parkinson's
Palpitations
I've had occasional heart palpitations for many years however at some point about 2 years ago (after enduring very stressful and traumatic year) palpitations started coming on more frequently and I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (Afib). Was put on anti arrhythmic medication for several months which unfortunately didn't help then last year went for cardiac ablation which so far has been working although occasionally have ectopic (extra) beats which in my case are supposed to be harmless.
Try to notice what triggers palpitations. It may be an allergic reaction to some foods, stress, quality/quantity of sleep (sleep apnea). It's good to have a sleep study done and also would recommend for you to see a cardiologist and if diagnosed with Afib ask for a referral to Electrophysiologist who specializes in electrical aspect of cardiology.
Meanwhile, you can buy pulse oxymeter on amazon which costs about $20-30 which you can put on index finger and get your pulse rate (which is the same as heart rate) and get an indication if your heart is in sinus rhythm or not. Good luck!
faridaro,
I'm just curious if you supplement potassium and magnesium for the afib?
Art
Art, you are right - sometimes palpitations can be result of electrolyte depletion. I used to take potassium, various kinds of magnesium along with some herbal extracts (hawthorn, motherwart) and even electrolyte formulas but unfortunately nothing was helping in my case. However, I would definitely encourage trying potassium/magnesium supplement unless someone has impaired kidney function.
I have had loads of tests and the consultant said there was nothing wrong with my heart and that Parkinson's did not affect your heart. In February I went to New Zealand for a mth to be with the man I love. He came back with me on the 14th of Feb. and I haven't had an episode since the beginning of Feb. I've been plagued with this for years . I don't know whats going on but I'm so pleased its stopped a its very scary. I do take various supplements including magnesium.
Yes, so much that it is feeding itself with undo stress from the worry. I'm sorry to sound "flip" about the issue as I'm sure it can be and is very real. I have been through 16 plus years of PD progressions, DBS relief, and more recently lack of response to sinemet prompting Multi System Atrophy testing and awaiting my new diagnosis......... My blood pressure and heart rate, temperature, resperations, digestion, matter of fact every function I depend on is never "normal" twice in a row.
I've come to the conclusion that "it is what it is!"
I try to take stressful situations with that mantra in mind. It helps for now.
I have had PD for 16 and have this too, it feels like the whole body is shaking or chair..
I ended up in the ER a number of years ago due to what felt to me like palpitations. Had a full cardiac workup over the years--holter monitor, stress test, echo cardiogram, angiogram, echo stress test (since I did not want to do nuclear stress test). Some slight abnormalities but nothing to be concerned about and cardiologist said I no longer need to see him.
I attribute to stress and PD. Although the cardiologist said PD does not affect heart muscle, I don't see how he can make that statement. It affects other involuntary muscles such as the diaphragm and the whole GI track. I have no answers; posted mostly since you were looking to see if anyone else has this. I do take magnesium 300-450 mg daily and a slew of other vitamins/supplements and meditate, which helps everything.
Hi ,I have had palpitations right from my teenage years,I was told several times by the pry doctor to eliminate caffeine from my diet, but I ended up with the diagnosis of anxiety.I treated anxiety till my PD diagnosis in 2016. I believe heart palpitations is part of non motor symptoms of PD.,for some people. If you search the web for palpitation and PD, you will find a relationship. It is caused by disruption of the autonomous nervous system. I sometimes still get palpitations with anxiety when my c/l is wearing off.I have spent a fortune doing all sorts of cardiac exams in the past with no cardiac abnormality. Just make sure you hydrate enough, exercise and reduce your stress. by relaxation, and of course avoid or reduce your caffeine intake.
Yes, CBD oil works great, have heart palms sometimes, similar dreams, use mannitol and Mucuna with my Rytary. Fresno, CA
