Without doubt this virus has hit the elderly, and in particular nursing homes very hard. Reported deaths jumped dramatically in France a couple of weeks ago when nursing home numbers were included, and the same has just happened with the UK numbers. Both are thought to be under-reported.

Belgium is the only country that has reported comprehensively and accurately so far from the beginning.

There are definitely inconsistencies in the data, which is why the trends, the shape of the graph,is more important than simple numbers. France is looking good now. The UK needs to confirm its position but has the beginnings of a flattened curve. The USA? Deaths still at best flat at around 2000 a day, already more than Vietnam and the 60000 prediction, at this rate they will exceed 100000 by about 18 May. The pressure to unlock could easily send those my much higher. Happy to be where I am

Winnie, absolutely sad, but true. Needless deaths.

You really should check out the news stories that show how exaggerated these claims of deaths are. Almost every death is being labeled covid-19 deaths. Del Bigtree with The Highwire really does the research to show what is going on. Our Governor here in NY is much to blame for the nursing home deaths since he was responsible for putting patients with covid-19 in nursing homes. It is very hard to keep from spreading in there. Look for the video with guest Dr. Zach Bush who explains also that Ace inhibitors and Statins skyrocket the deaths in seniors who get the virus. He explains it so it is understandable why that happens. Did you notice that the Who came out with a declaration that Sweden should be the worlds model on how to handle this virus. They never shut down and have pretty much gotten to herd immunity which is what we need here too. We are not scared of this virus. We go shopping and do what we want, even though my husband is 72 and I am 68. It's our responsibility to boost our immune system , Why should the whole country be ruined because some elderly or immune compromised might die? It makes no sense. We all will eventually get the virus anyway. Peolpe need to get out in the sunshine and fresh air. This closing of the parks and beaches is nuts. Cuomo said in a press briefing that now 66 percent of new hospitalizations are coming from patients observing strict lockdown in their homes. So lockdown does not work anyway.

I am horrified, too! A few years ago, my Dad died, while in a nursing home. Originally, my Dad had to go to a nursing care home, due to a stroke. Then he caught the very contagious c-diff in the nursing home, and went downhill fast. He had a lot of diarrhea, and loss of appetite. We had to be in full protective equipment gear to visit him. Just before he died, his weight had dropped so much, that he looked like a concentration camp inmate - all skin & bones! His decline was heartbreaking to see! When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and Cerebellar Ataxia, a few years ago, the first thing I thought of, was that my chances of ending up in a nursing home were, perhaps, inevitable. I had horror stories, from over the years, at what I’d seen in nursing homes. The lack of enough nursing aides, and the neglect of patients, including my Dad and Mom, weighed heavily on my mind! I do a lot of range-of-movement exercises, and go on three walks each day, to try to keep myself limber enough, to get around! With severe arthritis in my knees and shoulders, and the stiffness and spasms I get from PD, many times the pain level, is such that I would prefer not to exercise. I’ve had a number of falls, some serious, over the last 10 years, where I lose my balance and/or have had freezing moments, from the PD. Orthostatic hypotension has occasionally been a problem for me. So, in other words, staying active, and not becoming debilitated can be a problem for me, and I am terrified, of having to end up in a wheelchair, and/or become disabled in bed, where I’ll be too much for my family to care for, and they will send me to a nursing home! I don’t get paranoid about it, yet, but, to be honest, the future is speculative! It doesn’t help that there is tremendous risk, for us elderly, in our 70’s and up, to catch the COVID-19 Pandemic Vírus, and become very ill, and die! All we can do is take precautions, and take care of ourselves, and hope none of us get the 🦠! I believe it will be a while, before a vaccine is available! Cheers and good luck to all, in these perilous times!

For over 16 years , though-out many progressions, from a drug cocktail of over 32 pills a day to DBS. Every time I visit my Neuro and programmer they have told me to just keep up what I'm doing. I have had many grateful years of slowed progressions. Many years of acupuncture, yoga, herbs and common sense.

During a recent trip to South America at the start of this year, I came down with he worst (airplane cold) that threw my body a curve the likes I've never felt before. I felt as though my body never acclimated to the 10,000 ft. above sea level gasping for air mid sentence and even between bites of food. I succumbed to three days in my hotel room feverish and tired. I remember waking mid day one in astonishment that I was still alive....really! and besides that I was okay with it!

Enter CoVID 19 era.... After I was home and we all were imbedded in this pandemic, I had already been to my local GP with a persistent irritating dry cough that went on through March and related my travel story to him. My lungs were clear, no fever , tired, but the can be normal given the day and stress or sleep levels.

My tie-in to the topic at hand is after that revelation alone in the hotel in Columbia, I have realized the incredible waste of $$ extended care insurance is and although I'm grateful for everyday and the extended run I've had. I am ok with whatever happens. When progressions force me down a road that is truly the dead end...no joke....It's okay. But until that day, I'll never admit this thought to anyone else!

Stay healthy everyone

and thanks for listening

You really are right. I have to admit that we almost were hoping to get the covid-19 since the future looks so bleak with us having Parkinsons and cancer. It has often been said that pneumonia is the old peoples friend and that makes sense to me. We have a better home in heaven.

I believe morbidity from normal flu can be 10% in nursing homes. I have heard 30% figure quoted for coronovirus. I believe 30 of 90 died in one home in Scotland. 28 have died in home near us. In Spain army found nursing home abandoned with some residents dead in bed others untended. A grim fate indeed.

Here in New Zealand more than half our 20 deaths are from one retirement home but it is worth noting that these people were in advanced state of dementia with do not resuscitate orders so were expected to pass away within the near future with or without the virus due to their fragile health and advanced age. I do think these stats need to be recorded for deaths as it is a worthwhile distinction to make between.

You are so right. The fact that hospitals get about 4000 for a medicare patient who has regular pneumonia and up to 39,000 for one who has covid -19 is really skewing the results. follow the money. Please check this out. youtu.be/web099iy-uQ

My husband has terminal cancer and I have PD. We don’t feel sorry for those in nursing homes who are lucky enough to pass away and move on. We believe we will live on and keep progressing after death...in HEALTHY bodies. We are almost looking forward to that time. It will be wonderful!
