Hello there, here’s part of an email reply from Nan Little who has been a pioneer in this field, when I queried what was needed a couple of years ago:
There are not any absolute answers to your questions. The disease is different for just about everyone. However, research shows that if you ride 3 hours per week with a 10 minute warm up and 10 minute cool down and 40 minutes at 80-90 rpm, you are most likely to reduce your PD symptoms by 35%. You should try to keep your heart rate between 60-80% of Maximum Heart Rate (MHR). MHR is determined by subtracting your age from 220. So, you are 63 so your MHR is 60-80% of 157. You change the resistance on your bike so you can keep your heart rate in that range and you can keep your cadence at 80-90 rpm. It might seem a little complicated at first, but you get used to it.
