I looked at all the studies done on this micronutrient and none of them talk about Parkinson's or Dementia at all.

No it’s true they haven’t done clinical trials on Parkinsons yet but they have definitely been helpful for my husband.

He has been able to wean off antidepressants over months once he started feeling better and he is depression and anxiety free now for the first time in about 6 years. The antidepressants had turned him zombie like and now he is smiling , busy and enjoying things again. It doesn’t cure PD but it does relieve some of the symptoms.

So no direct bearing on PD just the emotional part of the puzzle. Oh well, for now we do not have these issues. THANKS.

Well I think if it affects the emotions it must be helping the brain and who know what else it is repairing. If you are short any micronutrients it may cause a problem with many different enzyme systems, some of the failures in these systems may be responsible for some of the symptoms experienced.

Thiamine and magnesium are clearly helping some people so it would not be surprising if people are deficient in other nutrients too.

I am taking Dr. Mischley’s PD school and she’s not a fan of Hardy’s. I am putting all my stakes on her right now.

LAJ12345 profile image

Ok, why does she not like it?

PDGal4 profile image

I’d have to go back and reread. Just recall a question about and her just saying, in short, she wasn’t a fan. I would guess she didn’t find it effective.

Ok, well my husband takes other things too like fish oil and ubiquinol etc (see my profile) so it doesn’t include them .I guess they are pretty bulky and oil soluble so need their own capsule. I think she recommends fish oil at least.

Maybe she doesn’t think hardys is complete enough. I’d be interested to know though if you can find out just in case she has some actual reason that they aren’t good. They’re working for him though so I’m happy with them!

I talked to Dr. Mischley, too. She didn't want to elaborate on Hardy's Nutrients. However, I am thinking very seriously about having my husband start Hardy's protocol. The question is what about all the supplements/minerals he is taking now?

LAJ12345 profile image
LAJ12345 in reply to Despe

Well that’s how my husband started. I thought I could reproduce the doses so accumulated masses of bottles of everything in it I could buy and was dividing capsules etc to try and imitate the dosage, but it didn’t have any effect on him. So I swapped as a last resort to Hardy’s as it was getting difficult to keep track of everything plus I don’t know the proportions of the proprietary blend.

I swapped over by phasing out the original bottles and phasing in the Hardy’s 1x 3 per day, then 1x2 up to 4x 3 which was then he made a noticeable improvement.

I do have quite a few half used bottles now which are nearing their expiry date but oh well, I put it down to the cost of an experiment !

He is taking extra b1 and b2 on top still as the natural doctor said his genetics test said his need for those were great. I saw a clip recently that said the mthfr gene requires extra b2 to compensate.

The one thing I can think of is that it does have some iron in it and I know she is not keen on that. But we have cut back on meat and eat a lot more vegetarian and the amount in it isn’t excessive and his iron tests are normal, although they don’t test the brain for iron. Hardys has ala in it which chelates heavy metals, and iron.

He certainly feels better which is a sign for me that it’s good for him as he has been feeling sick and fluey and anxious and depressed and apathetic for years and now he doesn’t and he is down to only 1% of the original dose of mirtazapine and 10% of the sertraline and only 1/2 a C/L so far which doesn’t seem to help at all, just makes him nauseous.

Look at all the things my hubby is taking on my profile. He can still take other things as long as you don’t double up on the minerals or non water soluble vitamins. Or take extra folate and b6 I think based on reading.

Possibly other things my husband is on is contributing to his improvement and Hardy’s is complementing them. Definitely horny goat weed has made him feel better too by taking away apathy which seems to be giving him more energy.

vitacost.com/planetary-herb... although be prepared for the libido effect which is real! He doesn’t know what that one is so it’s not placebo effect! He’s happy for me to try things on him but not interested in reading about them so experiments on him are not influenced by the placebo effect as he doesn’t know when I change things.

Thank you, LAJ! I read your profile again. Your husband is still taking extra vitamins which are not included in Hardy's.

I would really like to have an expertise's advice (Dr. Mischley or another ND) to guide my husband on taking the right supplements and minerals. We have been following Dr. Mischley's protocol and I hesitate to take initiative to change that. Since she is very busy and not always available, I found another ND a lot closer to us and made an appointment for consult and more testing (done so many of those already ). We'll go from there.

My husband just like yours never reads and never interested in PD education. . .

Yes fair enough. What works for mine may not work for anyone else anyway! And half of what he takes may be making no difference. I just report it as I know he’s feeling a lot better and someone else might have the same effect. It’s trial and error I think.

In NZ I don’t think there is a Dr mischley equivalent and he wouldn’t consent to going anywhere as it’s “a waste of money” so I plod on trialing things myself. If you have advise from a world expert though you are wise to take it as I’m not a professional, just a wife that reads a lot!

I must get a life and get back to reading novels for a change😁

Oh, you are so right! Just like you, even though Dr. Mischley doesn't believe in a lot of vitamins/minerals other than 4-5 supplements, reading new Phase II clinical trial results, I "cheat" and rush to get whatever works during these trials (ambroxol, kinetin, probiotics, etc.).

Just like you, I am not a professional, just a wife who tries to see her husband back to the best possible health. :)

I appreciate sharing your husband's successful protocol, and who knows it might work for my husband, too. I just want a professional's help as in times I feel so very overwhelmed trying to do it myself.

I love reading successful results!

Frankly I would take very little notice of anyone being too adamant about taking or not taking anything. As my husband's neurologist says "there's very little research done on vitamins or supplements,as there's no money in it. You can't patent a vitamin, try it". We have had amazing success with Mannitol. My husband had extreme apathy. It has turned him around. Our neurologist was amazed when he saw him last week. He couldn't believe the change. He spent time on the weekend researching it and sent me additional research that's currently being done on it. What a journey we are on.

My Hardy's Greens and Probiotic's arrived, but the label does not specify when, or how to take them. Can you tell me how your husband takes it...thanks !

he takes the 1 greens with his breakfast pills and one with his dinner pills. It says on our bottle to slowly increase to 1-2 x 3 per day. He also has been taking berberine and allimed garlic extract alternating with another probiotic for a year now as advised by the natural doctor for acne and roseacea which has finally gone for the first time in his life! So I haven’t increased it to the full quota of greens as I think there might be some of the same in it, and well because he is taking so many capsules he rattles!

I talked to one of the Hardy’s advisers and she swears by the greens. She had pretty severe gut issues and they sorted her out so she says they are one thing she won’t be without.

(At the moment lifestream probiotics mood. )
