I know Dr Mercola. I've seen his talks at medical conferences and I've emailed him. The article can be condensed into this:

"In 2014, we were told Ebola might overtake the U.S. and then it was pertussis outbreaks.23 In January 2015, it was measles in Disneyland. In January 2016, it was zika, followed by more news about pertussis outbreaks.24 In 2017 and 2018 it was influenza,25 then back to measles again in 2019.26 Now we have corona virus."

He's not a fan of vaccinations. Being that I spent 40 years vaccinating animals I guess I don't always agree with him. But I hope he's right and this virus will go the way of zika et al.

Tell me, if you would please, why vaccinate canines for rabies every year? As a child I was vaccinated once for disease prevention, why do animals have to be vaccinated every year?

We have three Chihuahuas, all our dogs have been vaccinated for rabies and all the dogs that we had before, that died from old age. You can do a titer and measure if a vaccination is still effective. So this way they won't have to be vaccinated every single year. And now I I believe they have some that last for many years between vaccinations. What amazes me is that they give the same amount of vaccine to a Great Dane as a chihuahua.

Hi Mary! Sorry for members of this forum who are vets, but I do not trust them. They were the cause of my "fur" child's passing due to unnecessary surgery for an obstruction that was not there! After his heart breaking passing, I did a lot of reading and searching and learned my lesson the hard way. :(

I know what you are saying. I had my own very bad experiences. That still hurt very much

In the dim past animal vaccinations were not as potent as inoculations. Things may be changing. The vet AMA is suggesting 3-year vaccinations. IT's hard to change old minds like mine, I still remember the days when parvo, distemper, hepatitis in dogs and leukemia in cats were common reasons for euthanasia. All of which could have been prevented with vaccination. Titers are still experimental in most of the country. Most think it's better to have a Rabies Shot rather than trust alternatives. I was inoculated against Rabies Virus as a student. That was nearly 40 years ago. Our class was the experiment. The test worked so well no booster shots were needed, according to the titers. I've been bitten a hundred times by dogs and cats, never needed the titer redone. Clients still expect yearly shots. I do it but mainly because it gives me a change to examine the patient. This catches a lot of diseases in their early stages. And lets me rant to clients about over-feeding their furry couch potatoes. These days the common problems are similar to human conditions: Obesity, diabetes, etc.

That answers my question! Thank you. My little poodle never goes out to the woods, never been bitten by any wild animal, so what is the need for repeated rabies vaccination? Natural alternatives are better, and that's what I use on him (done this for the last several years). Add to that homemade food and walking, he is in perfect health! :)

It's a 'what it' world. What if a friendly neighbor's kid gets a scratch while playing with your dog? If you can't show an up-to-date rabies certificate the dog can be taken away and euthanized for rabies virus testing. What if the neighbor kid gets an infection from the scratch? If your insurance won't cover the kid, you get sued. This crap happens. I've seen it more then once.

I know, I know all the "ifs" still, I don't agree with you. There have been studies by major universities and veterinarians that repeated vaccination causes nothing but harm. I will try to find relevant literature and I will post it. :)

The only harm is I don't see cases of parvovirus anymore and can't generate huge bills trying to treat it. I admit I see a lot more allergy cases than I did in decades past. I kinda wonder if we've gone too far overstimulating the immune system of young animals. I titrate vaccines by animal's weight. That prevents a lot of post-vaccine reactions. It seems silly to inject 1cc of rabies vacc into a 1000# horse and 1cc of the same vaccine into a 100# dog or 5# cat. They all work but the cat feels like crap for a week after the vacc.

I am referring to the frequency of the vaccination NOT the dose.

I blame the food for the allergies. My cat who was on science diet from birth died . He developed ataxia, went blind.

His brother also became ill at the same time. He had previously had hyperthyroidism, and his fur had been mangy for years. He ended up at the vets for 2 weeks on a drip at deaths door. I Changed his diet to raw meat with a few grain free biscuits of a New Zealand brand and three years later he is healthy, glossy fur, behaving like a kitten. He is now 14. A few months after he recovered I gave him a few science diet biscuits as they are expensive and the bag was half full and he started vomiting again. I took that as proof they were poison to him.

If that’s what processed food does to cats it’s no wonder people are so sick.

I have had nothing but great of care from vets here in the U.K. The end result has not necessarily been what I would have like but the care has been great.
