Hospitals need to do this. When my mom was in the hospital about a week with pneumonia, the hospital bill was $100,000. However, Medicare would only allow the to charge $6,000 and paid $5,000 of the $6000. Similar things happened with insurance negotiated rates. This doesn't seem to be a problem with doctors, but is with some anesthesiologists. If defense contractor's billing were like hospital's, they would be in jail.

What hospitals don't realize is this disclosure would help them instead of hurt. If they don't get their billing procedure under control, the government will be forced to socialize hospitals.
