Does anybody fall asleep in their chair wake up choking/Coughing?

If I fall asleep in my chair I will wake up every 5-10 minutes or so choking and coughing. A lot of times my head is to stiff to pull forward so I grab my hair and pull it forward. I think it might be part of my PD but not sure.

Have you been checked for sleep apnea?

I do have sleep apnea but never wake up choking and coughing from build up of liquid. However, I do drool at night so that might be the problem because my CPAP works through my nose, and I snore big time laying down without it.

I wake in the night with this but I don’t have PD. I feel like I am choking. I’m not sure if it might be an anxiety thing or physical. It feels like my throat is stuck together or filled with mucus.

Thanks John. I don’t eat after dinner at 7, but I’ll look into the pillow

I do that every night. I’ve decided it’s post nasal drip (as they used to say in commercials). Now I take one squirt of an antihistamine nasal spray (I use Nasalcrom - It’s OTC) and problem solved.

Interesting, I do not get it when I'm awake or sleeping in the bed.
