Xenos,

Apparently colloidal silver nanoparticles can have a positive effect on the PD brain via acting as a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) agonist. Silver nanoparticles are able to cross the blood brain barrier. H2S is a neurotransmitter gas somewhat in a similar fashion to NO. H2S ultimately has an antiinflammatory effect in the brain as well as reducing neuroinflammation. Here is a link to the full study :

It makes you wonder what a combination of silver and gold nanoparticles might be able to do as gold nanoparticles are noted for their antiinflammatory effects also.

Hi Art,

If the prevalence of PD is less in Rotorua, New Zealand, then we could be on something : the city is always under he influence of H2S emitted by the neighboring geysers.

And guess what, I googled it, and, to my surprise, it's true...

Let's move there. Actually I was there many times in the past (nice place for holidays) , not smelling anything : I have lost my sense of smell...

Xenos,

The downside to H2S is it can be toxic at relatively low doses. H2S is best produced by the body because the body controls it appropriately and safely. This transmitter gas is odoriferous at best with a rotten egg smell.

There has been much research into trying to combine H2S donors with such things as ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDS for a highly improved antiinflammatory effect than ibuprofen or aspirin alone. Here is a link to one study that discusses some of the potential of NSAIDS with H2S donors:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/222...

Unfortunately research in this area appears to have withered on the vine for some time, but appears to be making a come back :

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

So much potential, but no viable product to market yet! On a related note, mannitol which is often spoken of on this forum is an indirect H2S agonist which is no doubt part of the reason it has been helpful for some PWPs.
