Does anyone feel they have benefitted from medication especially in the early stages? Has it slowed it down?

I started meds because my tremor was getting worse and it help me with the pain. As far as slowing it down, not sure on that part. I really don't feel that it slow PD down.

I feel that Azilect helped early on. I started it in 2002 and worked till 3 years ago. I t so hard to be certain... the reoccurring mantra is "everybody is so different."

True..but the benefits seem outweighed by the side effects i read about here and trying this and that by trial and error.. and it does not stop the progress..so why not stick with natural less harmful alternatives? pharmeceutical cos have vested interests in their drugs..why cause possibly more harm to ourselves?

I agree that the drug industry has too much influence. Everything that has the power to help has the power to hurt... unfortunately.

I hate the pills but am worse without them.

From what you write you have many many PD symptoms now Hilary. Medication will improve most of them but not cure them. Unfortunately PD is a progressive disease and so far there is nothing proven to stop that progress. Some of us will believe one medication or supplement helps and some another. ( My choice at the moment is curcumin) As to benefits versus side effects perhaps there isn't an answer we would all agree on. It is a very complex codition that affects every part of our body from curling foot to vision and thinking problems. In the end we all do our best to find what suits us. As to using natural alternatives, what are you finding helpful at the moment. Wish there was a back and white answer to your question but I have found that Parkinsons isnt like that!

my neuro said (1) stay off med as long as you can. (2) stay undermedicated (3) don't let it progress :D . I said OK!

p.s. he recently said nothing has yet been proven to be neuroprotective, that is, slow the progression. Except maybe exercise (my opinion WITH music)

Thats what I thought;;slowing down one has been found to work on mice but not humans..broad beans and avocados give dopamine.I eat them!.who and where is your neuro..I like him!!!tibetan herbs.com has some useful herbs. I am trying RTRE from naturpath and have been prescribed zinc from kinesiologist-following musle testing. Detox all mercury and heavy metals from body..thats my view-dancing, yoga, pilates waterrobics, cycling, walking great..Keeping off sugar, wheat and milk helps..hard in winier

Ask neuro about mucuna pruriens.- a more natural medicine for pd.

I like him too. Dr. Alessandro Dirocco, NYU Hospital, NYC. He started exercise program for PWP. We have fun.

Agree with your neuro PatV especially undermedicating. That is the approach of my neuro too.

Those i know doing well after many years seem to medicate a small amount often.

Hilarypeta have you been on the neurotalk site. There is alot of information from people trying various options, drugs and alternatives . All the best.

I'm taking meds because I could not move my legs without it.

Are you walking normally ? I dont know as i have only recently been diagnosed...i am starting on mucuna pruriens as I wanted something more natural..and trying applied kinesiology with an osteopath.

Somewhat. My granddaughter asked me why I walked so slow.

Thinking about my walking, wearing shoes that help me walk heel, toe and taking wide strides help.

As soon as I took Carb/Levo I began feeling better.
