Stalling and falling

Has anyone found help with preventing falls .This year I seem to be falling more. I will be standing still and go to turn to walk somewhere and very suddenly my feet shuffle with a couple of very small steps almost on the spot and then I fall down usually onto my knees first then forward. It happens so fast.

I am on the b1injections twice a week , sinemet selegline and CBD and numerous supplements which have helped with other symptoms reallly well.I do excerise class twice a week. I have worked out a technique where I put my heel out first and try and keep my chest and head up which works well but unfortunately its very hard to keep remembering this all day every time I move . Has any one had an improvement from this. More sinemet is all my specialist says ? Already on 7 sinemet and 2 selegiline a day.

Hi I fall. most days lately , like you I am on 800 mg of sinemet daily and have now gone back on B1 to see if it helps. balance is obviously a big problem for us parkies .

I have not fallen since starting b1 in November. I did increase at one point with negative results. I stopped for three days planning on returning to the prior dose. I then fell 3 times in two days. I immediately started back on my previous 2 grams per day divided into two doses. I haven’t fallen since. I do use a walker away from home because I have Ataxia also.

Thank you for that reply, I am currently taking 2g of B1 daily. I am

reluctant to take more , hoping it helps my balance.

You can safely go up to 4 grams per day divided into two doses of 2 grams each. I am acquainted with a gentleman taking this amount for the past six years with no complications.

Thank you for that. Im wondering if I would be better taking the tablets every day in stead of injections twice a week.Maybe its better to have a more even dose. I will ask my doc. thank you

It’s possible. It can’t hurt. I would give it a try.

It is sad to say that no medication helps to reverse the symptoms of Pd.

You have learned that when you concentrate on your posture you don't fall, but you also say that you lose concentration and then fall. You are human! Practice! Practice! Practice!

I have learned to twist my torso to the side every time I fall and I keep my arms in and I land on the outside of my arm, then shoulder , then roll over onto my back. I don't hurt myself anymore.

If you start building your muscles by walking fast, you can get to where I am, which is medication-free. visit my website - reverseparkinsons.net and contact me, I will help you at no cost.

Hi fatcats. recently I had to admit that I fell two weeks ago doing the Parkrun ( I was walking). I finished the race but injured myself quite severely. I am telling you this because one of my most prolific critics took the opportunity to remind me of my post on how to avoid falling.

I have fallen three times i the past three years and that last time was the only time I hurt myself. I never said that what I do is foolproof, and I wonder how many Pd patients of 84 take part in Parkruns with over 1000 people jockeying for positions all the way around the course.

I let you know the good and the bad! Why not?

Sorry to hear you hurt yourself. Keep up the good work. Dont let the critics get to you. What you do does help slow down the progression at lot.

Thanks for your support. I don't want to labour the walking, but are you aware that unless you walk as FAST AS YOU CAN your brain will not produce the GDNF, which repairs the damaged brain cells.
