citalopram and "seasickness"

I interrupted - cold turkey because I am very very smart :-) - citalopram about a week ago (without the advice of a neurologist). Now I have the feeling of being on a boat at sea (not always, not heavily). When it will end ? ( will it end?)

You will have to keep yourself seasick for a few days. From psychiatric drugs one goes out by degrees and under the supervision of the psychiatrist.

Stopping ssri’s cold turkey can give a lot of unpleasant and even dangerous withdrawal effects. If it’s not going well, you could go back, maybe to a lower dose, and reduce gradually from there. I’ve discontinued several psychotropics over the years, successfully, but always more slowly than my doctor suggested. Slow and steady wins the race. If you get unpleasant symptoms, you are going too fast. Good luck!

Depending on how much medication you were on, you may have significant side effects from such sudden withdrawal. Usually, physicians recommend decreasing dosage gradually so that you don’t have any negative side effects. Sometimes they will start you back on the med and then taper it from there. It can feel pretty rotten and take a few weeks to totally clear out of your body. Hope this helps… Good luck!
