Is anyone using this herb in place of Dr. prescribed PD medication, is there any side effects, and does it act differently without Carbidopa?

Try searching this forum. Many threads on Mucuna.

Subjectively, in almost all aspects, it works better.

I'm using 40% L-dopa mucuna white extract from Barlowe's. It works well for me. On the white mucuna, the carrier portion is dextrin - very similar to CHK brand. They also have brown mucuna which is 40% l-dopa with the rest being ground mucuna bean. I like the white because it has almost no taste.
