Has anyone tried walking poles or walking sticks for balance ?
I always use my walking stick on rough terrain when I'm walking or hiking. It makes a big difference in my balance. I have the Nordic walking poles but I haven't gotten into using them yet. I'm sure I will do it at some point.
When I first got them years ago I tried them out a few times and wasn't doing it right so I ended up with my shoulder hurting quite a bit. The instructional videos are good thing to check out. Thank you for including those.
I'm interested in trying nordic walking. I have sensory ataxia, it's like being intoxicated and I need support walking. I think the poles would be good to get the arms involved, since for most of us they don't naturally swing.
Thanks for your post, it inspires me to try something different.
I have used Nordic poles for years. Specially when I’m anticipating an extended episode of walking or steep grades. I find that they give me a sense of stability that allows me to confidently work plus requires me to concentrate on coordination of my upper and lower body.
Etterus, Have you or would you consider using them to get around town on a daily basis . For example to go shopping or do errands ? I am aware my hands would not be free but I wear a backpack to carry stuff , It could get me into a store where I could switch to a shopping cart. I have a very difficult time walking through the
parking lots and through doorways. I have heard that the poles preventive freezing, is this true?
