Why would you want to?

I find that drinking alcohol slows me down even more than I already am, so I very rarely drink alcohol anymore. Don’t like the effect...

The doctors always say not to, but my husband drinks a fair amount of wine most days and it never seems to cause any problems. It relaxes him during panic attacks,

"A little of what you like does you good" - I still get pleasure from an occasional dram of Islay malt or a pint of fine Yorkshire ale.

Dr. Costantini said a glass of red wine/per day was fine.

I drink beer, wine, and plenty of it. It affects me quicker, so I really have to watch it. My dr is fully aware of what I consume, and he’s never told me to stop. It really helps the tremor if I drink enough of it.

I’m on Amantadine only. 1 glass of wine is fine any more than that I pay the next day.

How many pills per day? Amantadine is not compatible with alcohol.

By the way is amantadine helping you? I just started 1 pill/day for a week and now I went to 2 pills / day and did not see any help yet.

Thank you.

I am aware about that but we’re all affected differently. When I was on rasagiline and Amantadine could not have a glass of wine- horrible headaches. Stopped rasagiline. With just Amantadine no prob. 2 pills a day, 8am and 2 pm. Helps with tremors but not 100%, milder and less frequent. Still tremor but not as bad. Give it some time. Took me about a month to benefit. I actually think a glass of wine a day helps and is good for you, at least me.

Alcohol is a depressant and a central nervous system irritant; I agree that a drink once in awhile is ok, chronic alcohol use is not. Tremors are worse when alcohol wears off and sleeping is worse as well.

Truth! Same understanding & discovery, here.

I have wine every day, not a problem. Never more than a couple of glasses though

I also drink several glasses of wine daily. Do drink more slowly than I used to. Love my wine, love how it makes me feel. Have to have our pleasures in life is my philosophy.

I agree

If you're on Azilect you shouldn't drink red wine. It can make your BP go way up really fast.

Actually not true, according to my doctor. Azilect is a MAO B inhibitor. Antidepressants are an example of a MAO A inhibitor where you do need to be more careful with eating and drinking certain items. I believe the insert with Azilect states this as well. At any rate I ask my doc with every med we discuss about red wine because, I’m sorry, PD has taken enough and I will not let it take away my pleasure of enjoying red wine (and coffee).

my doc wisely said there is no medical issue, but, if you have a disease which lowers your balance, you may not want to exacerbate the problem

I take Sinemet 25/100 3x day, and I drink 2 or 3 pints of Guinness most days. It has no effect on my meds as I did the "Sober for October" last year and there was no difference in my tremor. As PDGal said"Have to have our pleasures in life ".
