Don't think this will be helpful to my husband b/c we already eat almost gluten free, but perhaps if we go totally GF, but might be helpful to some of you. Check out this article:
I agree that reducing or eliminating gluten will likely improve the symptoms in many PWP and much of the information he provides is good, but I found GreenMedInfo on the fringe a little too often for my taste because, for example, he warns against vaccinations because they might lead to autism -- long after that myth was dispelled.
I am reminded of the mantra I taught my kids as part of my coaching in exam technique - RTFQ.
My reading is that the case in question was Parkinsonism - symptoms associated with PD (as in "drug induced parkinsonism") but quite specifically not PD - dopamine depletion due to damaged neurons in the substantia nigra.
Moreover, quite specifically, based on a bowel exam, it concluded the patient had celiac disease.
So someone with celiac disease improved by eliminating gluten from the diet. No shit Sherlock! (I like to get a poo reference in when I can )
That parkinsonism (not PD) may be a symptom of celiac disease is interesting, as is the possibility that many case of PD continue to be misdiagnosed.
But the conclusion that patients with PARKINSONS DISEASE (me) who are not celiac (ME) will benefit from eliminating gluten, is not supported by the facts.
