Does Exercise Slow Parkinson's Disease Progression
Thanks for reminding us of the importance of exercise. We've all heard it before. The important thing is to do it. Winston Churchill reportedly said "When I get the urge to exercise I lay down and wait for the feeling to pass". How do we overcome resistance? Any suggestions?
I dread it every time, but get a nice post workout high every time. The more I sweat, the better I feel afterward and it's empowering to do something proven to actually slow the progression.
My wife has the willpower to work out an hour a day by herself, I don't. What makes me work out is Rock Steady Boxing. Great group of people in the class and great coaches. Having it scheduled helps make me go. Otherwise I'd be down in the basement working out maybe six times/month. With RSB I get a little over an hour three times a week, plus some socializing and inspiration from seeing how hard the mostly older folks work out.
Once you get going, your improved wellbeing will be motivation enough. Like Jimcaster, I dread it, but I know if I miss a few days I start feeling much worse. For me, that’s enough to keep me going.
