Although I'm convinced that EXERCISE is the only widely accepted means of slowing or stopping PD progression, it seems as if another encouraging study is released daily. Here's today's good news from Australia:

Thanks Jimcaster. There are days during which one need that kind of news...

Sounds hopeful. I have noticed I feel better when taking anti inflammatory meds for other reasons.

Despe profile image

Such as? I believe ibuprofen helps.

Voltarin

in reply toAstra7

Voltaren / Diclofenac is quite effective and absorbed well topically, but it is quite harsh on the kidneys and liver, even in the topical form. Often times, by the time there is a problem from diclofenac, the organs are already damaged. I have used it briefly in the past because it was so effective, but once I realized the potential for problems, I stopped using it!

Art, our family doctor prescribed Voltaren for my husband, but I read about side effects, plus our good pharmacist who also injects my husband with B1 told us about the dangers, so we didn't fill the prescription.

in reply toDespe

Despe,

It is a really effective pain reliever, but in my mind, the risk seems too high! If you are one of the unfortunate ones, it only takes one dose to do damage! That to me is too high of a risk for temporary pain relief! There are other less dangerous options that are also effective for pain relief. Even topical ibuprofen seems much safer by a wide margin. The topical Arnica homepathic ointments are very effective and very safe. The medical marijuana topical ointments are also useful and effective for pain relief and the human body has cannabinoid receptors throughout so it can definitely make use of MM.

Why take the risk of something like Voltaren / Diclofenac if you have safer options available.

Yes, Art, topical ibuprofen works, too, as well as "Advil Liqui Gels" capsules . He is doing a lot better now, and don't know what has helped. I keep thinking it's B1!!

in reply toDespe

Glad to hear it , Despe!!!

Maybe all of Dr. C's experience is paying off for, Ray!

PS. I live in the wrong state for MM. :( :(

in reply toDespe

Well, the homeopathic arnica ointment is a good one and because of the tremendous dilution associated with homepathic products, the safety profile is excellent! Oh, and its probably legal where you live!

Hi Art! Thanks for all the good info. :) Where do I get arnica ointment? On line, Walmart, drugstores?

in reply toDespe

on line with any of the major supplement suppliers or Amazon. The one I tried does not smell very good, but it works pretty good and the smell goes away quickly also!

NATRA BIO CREAM ARNICA RUB, 4 OZ

Thanks! I will have him give it a try. By the way, I see subtle improvements, but can't pinpoint. Perhaps in a week or two I will let you know. :)

Another piece of evidence suggesting inflammation is the cause.

Jim, good one. I wonder if we shouldn't poke around and try to find out what it is, is on the outside chance of us want to experiment on ourselves with it.

jimcaster profile image
jimcaster in reply toMBAnderson

Let's do it. I will be in a legal seminar tomorrow and Friday, but let's do some research and discuss it next week

MBAnderson profile image
MBAnderson in reply tojimcaster

Great. Let's. I'm out of circulation for a few days as were driving to Florida Saturday and I'm all jammed up the next 2 days getting ready to go, but I'll be back in service next Tuesday and will compare notes and go from there.

MBAnderson in reply tojeeves19

Jeeves, I do not know if Jim's intention is the same as mine, but to be candid, there is a very small chance that if we can figure out the safety and figure out how to have it made by a laboratory or compounding pharmacy, as some people did with nilotinib, I'd consider doing so. If the stuff in Jim's article is as promising as the expectation the article creates, it's 8 to 10 years off, which if I don't have to, I'm not inclined to wait.

who's going to try MCC950? I'm currently trying Vinpocetine, "perwinkle plant" shown to rescue dopamine neurons in mice with very high levels of alpha synuclein. Hoping it will help with my most bothersome symptom of leg drag/gait.

Super! Very good video. So many diseases and conditions involve inflammation.

This article speaks about dopamine - when I tell people about dopamine and Lyme and Parkinson's Disease they look at me as though I'm crazy. Now I have a clear and concise video to support my findings (research).

Encouraging info! Please keep us informed on what you and MB Anderson discover! I could use a dose of hope on this cold and rainy day...

this study dates back to 2015

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2...

The molecule, MCC950, was produced by Pfizer two decades ago as a possible treatment for arthritis.

However, the company discontinued its efforts to bring the drug to market, and the intellectual property rights on it subsequently lapsed.

The researchers say for certain conditions, like Muckle-Wells syndrome and asthma, such trials could take place as early as two to three years from now, as the drug had already undergone some human testing by Pfizer.

Thanks. Good find. This quote from the article is also encouraging. They think it can be tested on humans orally. What stands out in the article Jim posted is how unequivocal the claim is, i.e., "stops the progression of Parkinson's, " but then it is an article about the study and not the study. They also claim it stops the progression of MS. Worth looking into.

"The discovery by the research team, details of which are published in the journal Nature Medicine, confirms that all inflammatory diseases share a common process, although the part of the body which experiences the inflammation might differ.

The scientists subsequently carried out trials on mice and found that the molecule stopped the progression of multiple sclerosis and sepsis.

They also carried out testing on samples taken from humans with Muckle-Wells syndrome, a rare auto-inflammatory disorder, and discovered it was equally effective.

The scientists also say that it is likely the drug could produce fewer common side-effects, such as susceptibility to infection, than other anti-inflammatory drugs, and could prove cheaper and capable of being administered orally.

The next stage will involve testing the compound on humans and a wider group of diseases."

Well good luck guys. Keep us informed. How far do you think an anti-inflammatory diet might impact?

jimcaster profile image
jimcaster in reply tojeeves19

An anti-inflammatory diet certainly cant hurt, but I have no clue exactly how beneficial it is, although if diet alone stopped progression, I think someone would have figured it out by now.

The Fox Foundation helped fund this study. Here's a press release from 2016:

Maybe this brings my original post "full circle." I have had blood tests done, all of which indicate that my inflammatory markers (CRP, etc.) are very high. I believe chronic inflammation is strongly related (either as a cause or symptom) of PD. I believe EXERCISE is vitally important to slow progression, in part because it's also anti-inflammatory. If mcc950 is safe and shows promise as THE best anti-inflammatory medication, it sure is encouraging.

Jim, irrelevant, but what happened to "go fund me. . ." Not on line anymore.

Do you mean the Go Fund Me account created for Dr. Costantini's thiamine research? I don't know anything about that.

Despe, It seems that the post has been removed. I searched the whole HU forum but couldn’t find it.

in reply toKia17

Yes, it was removed, but I have a link to it on the "thiamine primer page" in the links section near the end of the original post for anyone who is looking for it or for complete information about the HDT protocol.

Given that MCC950 is going to take years to become available to PD patients I figure that its best to look at what NLRP3 Inhibitors are readily available to us now:

This actual offers some possibilities. Aloe Vera, green tea, curcumin et Al.
