The Brain Bank, based at Imperial College London, collects precious tissue from people with and without Parkinson's who have decided to leave their brains to Parkinson's research.

The tissue is supplied to researchers studying Parkinson's all over the world. This research could lead to treatments, a cure and life for everyone affected by Parkinson's improving.

I don't know what I was thinking as I was eating when I started watching that....probably not the best idea!

Interesting all the same.

When I look at a dissected brain, it's hard to imagine that from that blob comes Shakespeare, landing on the moon, war, and love.

That was a fascinating article Kia thankyou. I do think, however, that they would do well to extend the search to the gut-brain axis so instead of just the brain bank, it could be the Parkinsons gut-brain bank (taking into research the Gut, Brain, central and enteric nervous system). Otherwise, its a bit like the saying, putting the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. I am aware that this will require the multidisciplinary approach that seems to be lacking in some of the research. here's hoping that the Brain bank is listening.

As a member of the U.K. Brain Bank Management Group, your idea has been heard. My initial thought would be that it would a storage nightmare to store everything from brain to intestines routinely. A quick google search indicates that research into gut bacteria is already taking place without extending the remit of the Brain Banks. The brain is the only part of the body that is generally inaccessible during life hence its storage in death.
