Good News Out of Asia: 2 Studies Definitely Worth Following

Good one p-oui. (What does that mean?)
This stuff, KYP-2047, in the article you link to, an inhibitor of the enzyme PREP (prolyl oligopeptidase,) which accelerates the aggregation of a/syn, caught my fancy because of its near miraculous performance, clearing a/syn aggregates in 10 minutes in vivo and in vitro, so I did a little more reading, with an eye to, ‘is there something comparable that’s affordable and accessible?’
The article you posted, from 2016, coincides with a 2016 S of PD blog posts. scienceofparkinsons.com/201...
Apparently, they have been dinking around with this compound since 2012, but then the trail goes cold.
Anyway, turns out Berberine also inhibits the PREP enzyme and is an inexpensive supplement, as effective as a pharmaceutical, and probably being taken by some PWP (perhaps for other reasons, such as an anti-inflammatory, weight loss or lowering blood sugar.)

Not that I’m looking for another supplement to spend money on, but since it inhibits PREP enzyme, it’s worth a closer look.

“The results show that the PREP blocker clears the animals' brains of alpha-synuclein aggregates and corrects the motor symptoms that are characteristic of the disease."

Here's a lab that says what the compound is composed of and sells the stuff.

Really interesting. Would this be the same as say taking mannitol which apparently helps destroy alpha synclein lumps in the brain. Any thoughts pls??
Basically, yes. Their mechanism of action is different, but the results are the same, i.e., less a/syn. There is data showing its neuroprotective and there are anecdotal reports that people can feel the benefit, but like with everything else, not everybody benefits. About one third say it made them worse. I have a heaping teaspoon every morning with my decaf coffee. The studies say low doses are more effective than a high dose, but I don't know what they mean by low dose.
Berberine might be a very good suggestion.. It is amazing stuff. I have some experience with it, yet not anti-Parkindons's but..
