DBS Surgery in IL

I am hoping to get the OK for DBS surgery soon. Would love to hear from anyone who has had this done in the Rush Shore Medical center Chicago IL or Evanston Hiospital in IL. Good or bad, I need to know.

My husband did it at northwestern downtown, in June 2016, and October 2016. They did a neurological exam beforehand, and he was upset because they said his visual memory was very low, and therefore didn’t qualify for the free (study) surgery. Also due to that, they split his surgeries into two. I had his brother go with him, and it was 5am arrive and prep. 7am-2:30pm surgery. He came out the first time with one side and battery done, and acted like normal for a month before they turned it on and gave him low dose meds. The second one, only 4 days grace period. He was awake for most of the surgery in a device holding his head still which he said was extremely uncomfortable, and then was under for the last hour.

He used to have a doctor at rush, but we switched to NU because we knew the doctors family.

Thank very much! It is very helpful. How is he feeling right now?? I hope the surgery was successful?

He’s okay for the most part. Balance isn’t good and speech is a bit worse, but at least the freezing episodes are gone.
