I'm hearing different views about the longevity of DBS. has this been covered before and can anyone out there who had DBS for more than 10 years comment / share his or her views?

I have a friend who did DBS 3 times... the first time it worked okay. Then after 5 years they had to go in, I think batteries or infection? So they took it out.

The third try, he had an issue with his blood pressure, he almost died, spent 2 years in rehab curled into a ball, then regained ability somewhat, so they decided not to do it.

Now he’s been home a year.

The span on this I think was about 7 years.

Scary. I wonder if this case an exception or the norm.

Can you let our community know how he was before the surgery and after, what changes he has had. I’ve read some people develop speech or balance issues after surgery. Has he had any negative side effects? Thank you!!!
