Does anyone know if Dr Constantini performed a double blind study to test this theory? Per the article the thiamine helps fatigue but states that the disease will still progress. If anyone finds a published study about thiamine for PD please let us know. I would love to read it.

Thus- explains doctor Costantini- the therapy based on high doses of Vitamin B1 eliminated exhaustion and the neurological deficit. Of course, beyond a period of 20 or 30 years, it was impossible to eliminate the disease entirely. However an important part could. Furthermore we have demonstrated that the effect of Thiamine can persist through time and that the neurological symptoms and exhaustion are due to an alteration of the metabolism of the Thiamine”.

Great job of quoting the article which is poorly translated and/or written, but clearly has the same language that is a hedge as does nearly every letter, email or communication with him.

"It was impossible to eliminate the disease entirely. However an important part could."

This is a perfect example of the whole thiamine discussion on this forum. We can begin by agreeing that Dr C. ultimately admits thiamine alone will not stop the disease. Next the question is what the heck does "an important part could" mean? Not tremors because nearly everyone with tremors says they haven't stopped. A couple folks claim their UPDRS score went down, but Dr. C. seems unable to provide a conclusive percentage of patients that experienced this benefit nor has he indicated how long the benefit is lasting or lasted.

There can be no question thiamine is useful in alleviating symptoms, but I wish people would realize and begin to discuss that it is but one part of a possible solution, and there are other supplements out there that hold the potential to attack the root cause of PD rather than the symptoms.

The "important part" he is referring to, i believe, is the relief of chronic fatigue. No, its not a cure, but it is making a lot of people feel much better, cheaply and safely. And im pretty sure all of his 2500+ patients have benefited except for the single one that could not tolerate the therapy.

Hi Joe, I saw that in your protocol you have increased the daily dose of thiamine from 400mg to 1000mg a day, strange for me, because in previous posts you said you had taken thiamine for a week and you had the blood pressure up, so why have you changed your mind about thiamine even increasing it to 1000mg per day in the last three months?

Do not treat me badly in answering if you can, because look I read all your post about it and related research, including one of Dr. Costantini on the Friedreich ataxia. that you quote, and it was not easy. :-) Gio

Based on my experience it is not correct to say that thiamine is merely symptomatic relief. After two weeks my intestinal peristalsis recovered. Now after three months, I am able to walk around the house more like a normal person instead of staggering like a hemiplegic. These changes point to an improvement in the underlying neurology.
