Anyone taking Isradipine and if so has it helped you?
Isradipine and PD: Anyone taking Isradipine... - Cure Parkinson's
Isradipine and PD
I've been taking Isradapine for a couple years, but I take a lot of other stuff, so I don't know if it helps or not. As you probably know, it's in phase 3 trials in 57 locations in the US and Canada. Data so far indicates is neuroprotective, but the data is not robust.
Does it help with your BP? My neurologist suggested it instead of my current BP med.
I don't take it for blood pressure. I take Losartan for hypertension. Isradapine is a real old, weak drug. It takes 6 weeks for the blood serum to reach a therapeutic level. I'm surprised a doctor recommended it. The VA has taken it off their formulary. There's a lot of newer, better stuff.
I did, but did not notice any difference. At the same time I have no idea of the proper dose for PD.
Just this week I had my final visit for a three year blind clinical trial for Isradapine. Hard to tell what, if anything, it did.
I won't have results for about another year.
During the three year clinical trial, the dosage for Isradapine was 10 m in the am, and 10 mg with dinner.
My husband took it replacing Norvasc for his high blood pressure. Not sure if it helped but there was evidence that Norvasc could exacerbate or cause PD like symptoms so I requested the dr to change to Isradipine. His blood pressure then reversed and got lower, so he stopped the meds. He did not respond to the other PD meds well, and had an atypical PD.
And, isradapine may have a neuroprotective effect
I’ve been taking 5mg 2X per day for BP. Supposedly it slows progression of PD, but uncertain of being able to note specific signs of it working enough to feel how it’s making a difference.
I just completed the Phase 3 SteadyPD clinical trial for isradapine. Don't know if it helped. Do know that I felt pretty good during those three years and am still taking the same dosage of levodopa now as I was at the beginning of the trial. No way to know now I am off it, at least not immediately, as it doesn't prevent symptoms, if it works, only hopefully slows the progress of the disease. We won't know final results from the trial until next February or March, but I have to say that I feel a bit hopeful given the fact that my symptoms didn't appear to increase much during the 36 months of the clinical trial.
That sounds like good news to me. I started taking Isradipine about to months ago and started to notice my left leg didn't hurt as much and it wasn't as restless, especially while driving. I definitely feel different (better) since last Monday. Not sure what's going on but I'm going to keep taking Isradipine to see if it last.
