Hi all, relatively new here (my dad has just been diagnosed with PD) and I'm not sure whether this is very new compared to what has already been written previously about this subject, but could this be the start of a more helpful medicine for the future?
This is very interesting - they showed the treatment reduced the alpha synuclein levels and increased dopamine levels in an animal model. Hopefully the research will continue.
This is new to me! It sounds very interesting, but even if it proves to be successful, the sad part is that it can then take ten years before any of us will be able to get hold of this treatment.
In the meantime, don't start taking any current Pd medication, other than MAOb inhibitors. Rather start doing fast walking, which has been proven to slow down the progression of Pd. It is not a cure, but it is very healthy and costs nothing.
Strategizing to help ourselves, who have to deal with PD on a daily basis, is a good thing. Keeping an open mind and exploring as many avenues of treatments, medicines, herbal medicines, research studies etc. could prove beneficial, and I for one, believe, that I must be aggressive, because, in my case, PD symptoms are advancing.
