Do Some People inherit Parkinsons? - Cure Parkinson's
Do Some People inherit Parkinsons?
Very interesting indeed. While all this expensive work is going on, trying to find a cure for Pd, which we obviously want as soon as possible, some of us have found ways of reversing the some of the symptoms.
It is interesting to note that in this video the speaker mentions two symptoms, namely 'constipation' and 'insomnia', both of which I have, and both of which I have been able to modify in one way or another. But I have not CURED ANYTHING! I walk normally now, unless I am not concentrating on what I am doing, I still don't sleep much, but I live around it by not letting it stress me and I manage to control my constipation by encouraging the sphincter in the anus to relax, while pressing down with my floor muscles at a regular time each day.
I am not a scientist and am not looking for a cure, I am a patient who has managed to control MY PD and not need medication anymore, while living a 'normal' life.
What I do appears to work with most patients with walking problems and many with balance problems. It does not work with everybody. But, if what I do helps about 30% of the Pd population to live normal lives, that is 30% more than has happened before.
Others should be helping me to help that 30% to get BETTER!
It has become clear to me that the Rock Steady Boxing movement has also been able to help Pd patients reverse their symptoms. It would be interesting to know, how many of those who do the boxing and have been helped to get better are similar to the patients that I am able to help, namely, those with walking problems?
I’d prefer to keep this thread on topic. There are plenty of other threads on exercise, constipation, insomnia and your treatment ideas.
Well said Hikoi. Could you close this post and start again? John’s post might be a better reply to Roy Prop who is currently trying a Meds ‘holiday’ or the lady who has a mother in a hospital which doesn’t believe in Levodopa theapy.
Who said I don't believe in levodopa therapy? I have said over and over, that Levodopa therapy does not do anything to stop the progression of Pd, so why take it? I also have said that if a patient os on Levodopa and is able to do the fast walking, then they should, at some stage, be able to slowly come off the medication. or at least reduce it to avoid the dyskinesia side effects.
Happy to carry this discussion on in private John, where you will have more time to read what I say rather than fire off quick responses.
I'd like to know about your theories for my husband whose balance is troubling and getting out of livingroom furniture. We'd love Rock Steady Boxing but it's too far to drive for both of us.

I started a new thread with your question, I hope you will get more responses than having it under this genetic thread.
Thank you...I'm also studying the genetic findings. Our son does that type of work in the U.S. He might be interested since his dad has PD at 75, for 5 years or so.
Hi Hikoi, I don't know about PD. But my maternal grandfather had Psoriatic arthritis. My mom had Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and now ITP, because I took Yellow Fever Vaccine. This type of Live Vaccines should not be taken by people who are predisposed to genetic disorders. I am genetically predisposed, because 2 generations had Auto Immune Disorder.
Please check out aarda.org. I read that Auto Immune Disorders can be genetic. Only it says that we may get any one of the 100 Auto Immune Disorders. Not necessarily what our parents, ancestors had.
The speaker tells us that the family studied had a variant in the SNCA gene, and that there are variants in other genes associated with Parkinson's, and mentions the presentation lists 14. I know that there are some that have stronger association than others. For the lay person it is hard to sort it out. I've had my self tested a while back by 23andme. They report only that I don't have LRRK and GBA variants mentioned by the speaker, but they don't report on the other variants. There are third parties that will help you identify some other variants, and their relative association with Parkinsons. SNPedia.com provides information on findings for various variants, but I find I no single above other variants that is strongly associated with PD. I just tell my family I am genetically predisposed to early onset baldness. Grey and thinning I am but I am not bald. Though I believe there is some genetic trait I may share with my grandmother who had parkinson's I haven't figured it out. Genetics is interesting in augmenting genealogy research, another topic.
I too have taken 23andMe testing and find the whole area bamboozling. It is amazing what is being discovered - from not recognizing the involvement of genes until the first discovery in the 1990’s to identifying 14 now. Thanks for the SNPaedia info, Ill check it out.
I enjoy trying to make sense of genetics in my genealogy research but I’m getting no where fast! There some good genetic genealogy blogs around just wish my brain retained new info for later use!
