BACK PROBLEMS AND PARKINSON'S: SO I HAD... - Cure Parkinson's
BACK PROBLEMS AND PARKINSON'S
Are you on any Parkinson meds and if so do you notice relief after you take them?. Your pain could be muscular or could be skeletal. Either way tight muscles will be causing or aggravating it i suspect.
yes but i havent been on them long only a couple of months so i hope it goes away soon its very painful
Oh, it is a shame that meds havent given relief from back pain, they do for some. I have had sciatica which is common for pwp, not that pd causes this but the stiffness of the muscles aggravates it. Pain in pd is common and not widely recognized.
I wish there was a magic cure for pd pain but so many factors are involved. Good luck
I go to a chiropractor once a month it helps keep me limbered up. He doesn't crack your bones but does more deep massage and works some on pressure points. Mine is because I have bad posture, which most PwP's do, so I would say it's because of the PD. Some say massages help also. Like Hikoi mentioned, it depends if it's muscular or skeletal. Good luck & hope you get some relief soon.
I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and PD the same month and year. After fusion of 6 discs, I am free of shooting pain. In the AM I have to curl into the fetal position for a few minutes before getting out of bed. I loosen as I start walking about. I speed walk 4-6 miles a day and feel pretty good for a 64 year old with issues!
I had back pain for years prior to my diagnosis but since I began taking Sinemet, I very seldom have pain. I do wake up early some mornings with the tightness and pain in my mid back, but it goes away after my morning dose.
I take 2 arthritis strength Tylenol daily. They help even though my neuro says they don't. I also started acupuncture three weeks ago. Yesterday was the first exercise class with no back pain. I felt very grateful . I have scoliosis which probably contributes to the pain.
Yes, RobynS, I too have ongoing lower back pain since I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago. It is restricting my movement big time which creates a vicious circle, because it's so important that we keep moving. I also have an intense pain that develops in my right hip/groin area when I walk and it moves through to my gluteus and I then cannot lift my leg at all! I am currently getting acupuncture which has helped a little but long term I don't know the answer because I believe it is tied into the PD.
I box twice a week ......and have daily exercises from my physiotherapist which I often just cannot do. I don't do well with pain meds. My Sinemet hasn't helped the pain ....that would be a bonus!
wow mine radiates to my groin area as well i was worried that it may be something else like cancer because it has never happened before was just in lower back only.I too hope the meds will eventually help or that it doesnt get worse.i am very active and hope to stay that way as long as possible Birdworld
As a result of the Parkinson's, do you lean forward when you walk? If so that may be the cause of the lower back problems.
I am a little bit but not too much really and i had problems before my diagnosis and now i have pain in my shoulder blade on the effected side. it feels like a pinched nerve or something.the pain is the most bothersome issue i have i guess i should feel lucky not to have more serious effects yet
My physio has asked me to get X-ray done just to make sure we aren't overlooking anything. Yet to talk to my doc.
My husband is the pwp in our family, but I have had different forms of back and hip pain through the years. I have always asked to be evaluated by a physical therapist and have followed up with physical therapy. This approach has never failed to bring significant relief from pain.
Maintaining the muscles that hold our skeleton in place prevents pinched nerves, strained tendons, and holds our joints in alignment. In my opinion physical therapy is the best pain drug there is! I wish everyone in pain would be able to have therapy 2x a week for 4 weeks to see if their pain could be reduced significantly. You do have to have a small amount of maintenance exercise to keep the pain at bay.
Maybe you can try massages, because that really works for me.
Yoga! First thing in the morning when I get out of bed. Oh, I can be stiff and painful then but it hurts so good! After 20-30 minutes it gets me in shape for the rest of the day. If pains come up later I take some time out and do some more stretches.
